Jaleel Sabir, Founder, Mahavir Soundroom speaks to Smart Home World about the latest advancements in technology, creativity, collaboration, and his future vision for his company.

Mahavir Soundroom is where luxury meets technology to create unparalleled experiences in home automation and home cinema. With a reputation synonymous with high-end luxury, MSR caters to the Who’s Who, setting new standards in the realm of bespoke creations. Each MSR project is a masterpiece, a testament to innovation and craftsmanship that leaves the world in awe. From integrating cutting-edge technology to curating the finest brands, MSR has redefined the very essence of home automation, taking it to a level beyond imagination. Smart Home World showcases some of their projects, where every detail is crafted to perfection and luxury knows no bounds.

Mahavir Soundroom is one of the most reputed companies in the industry. Can you take our readers through your journey so far?

Our incredible journey started as a pioneer of luxury home cinema and automation since its inception in the 90s. Our story began with a simple desire to build a remarkable sound system, and little did we know that it would lead us to become a pioneer in the industry.

As the concept of surround sound was still nascent, our passion for creating the perfect sound system for ourselves soon became a shared fascination among our friends. Together, we embarked on a journey to build sound systems that mesmerized everyone who experienced them. With enthusiasm and dedication, we grew, attracting more like-minded individuals, and our journey took a decisive turn when we established Hyderabad’s first Home Cinema store with a dedicated demo room and an impressive LD and DVD library.

Over the years, our endeavors expanded, and we took on prestigious projects, leaving an indelible mark with the sound systems we designed for iconic landmarks like the Golconda and the Taramati Baradari. As our reputation grew, we ventured into various industries, leaving our expertise in corporate spaces, educational institutions, auditoriums, shopping malls, and control rooms.

Today, our focus lies in integration, installation, and automation processes, offering a comprehensive range of in-house services. We take immense pride in providing around 40 diverse products and services, ensuring our customers have a wide array of options to meet their unique requirements.

Being esteemed members of CEDIA, the industry standard in the professional audiovisual realm, is a testament to our commitment to excellence. With every project we undertake, we strive to redefine the boundaries of luxury and technology, crafting experiences that leave a lasting impact on all who encounter them.

As we continue to evolve and innovate, we are grateful for the unwavering support of our valued customers and partners. The future holds boundless possibilities, and we eagerly look forward to creating more unforgettable experiences with you by our side.

Can you share with our professional readers some of the revolutionary Home Theatres you have worked on, which have been a turning point in your career in terms of experimenting with new Sound Technology and High-end Automation, or introducing innovative concepts?

The essence of our journey lies in the relentless pursuit of visionary projects across diverse industries. From awe-inspiring Light and Sound shows to transforming corporate spaces and crafting mesmerizing home theaters, each endeavor has propelled us beyond limits.

One such groundbreaking project that pushed our boundaries was the world’s first Trinnov rack with 5x amplitude for a single theater. For this technological marvel, we incorporated an astounding 10 kW of amplification, powering a remarkable array of 37 speakers. This challenged both technical and design-related standards and became a trendsetter. Over the years, we enriched our knowledge and delivered exclusive and innovative sound systems for various spaces.

An unforgettable turning point came when a client approached us with a 24-channel home cinema concept, inspired by an Italian showroom. Instead of simply assisting the Italian integrator in India, we took a bold stand. MSR’s unwavering commitment to excellence drove us to decline the project, stating our principle of installing only projects designed and supplied by us. We were determined to deliver a system that surpassed the client’s Italian inspiration.

This pursuit of excellence led us to collaborate with the talented Sawan Nichani of MacBee. Together, we set out to create a groundbreaking 32-channel Home Cinema with 37 speakers, a feat that was unprecedented at that time. This revolutionary project not only expanded our creative possibilities but also showcased our dedication to turning visionary concepts into reality.

We take immense pride in this exceptional project that not only met but exceeded the client’s vision. This achievement has become a symbol of MSR’s commitment to redefining the boundaries of sound system design and installation.

As we continue to embrace challenges and seek new opportunities, our passion for innovation remains unwavering. Each project, big or small, continues to inspire us to go the extra mile, leaving an incredible mark on the luxury home automation and home cinema industry.

What are the latest technological trends shaping the Home Theatre or Home Cinema segment?

With the constant growth and evolution of technology, the trends shaping the home cinema segment today are niche and highly advanced. Automation and its integration have had a huge impact on the home cinema segment. Today, home theatre systems are becoming part of smart home ecosystems, allowing users to control their entire home entertainment setup alongside other connected devices. Also gaining popularity today is multi-room audio systems that allow users to distribute audio throughout their home, creating a seamless audio experience in different rooms.

What are your views on the importance of Lighting Design in a home cinema?

Lighting design holds immense significance in both home cinemas and residential spaces, as it has the power to transform the entire ambiance of a room. With a simple touch of a button, you can instantly infuse energy into the entire house or craft a captivating atmosphere for a specific area.

In the realm of home cinemas, lighting takes on a crucial role, setting the stage for an immersive movie-watching experience. As the lights dim with the commencement of the film, a warm and nostalgic feeling washes over you, reminiscent of the enchanting ambiance of a traditional theatrical setting.

Beyond its role in creating a cinematic atmosphere, lighting serves multiple purposes. It enhances visual comfort, ensuring a pleasant viewing experience for extended periods. Moreover, it contributes to the overall aesthetics of the space, elevating the interior design and making it visually appealing.

In the comfort of your own home, lighting becomes a key ingredient in curating an enjoyable cinematic journey. It complements the audio-visual elements, allowing you to indulge in a truly captivating movie-watching experience.

What is the biggest innovation in the home automation segment? How has it revolutionised the entire industry?

The biggest innovation in the Home Automation industry is that of Control Automation. It has made Automation very easy to use for any age group by creating a very user-friendly GUI (Graphic User Interface). It has also made the integrator’s job very easy by reducing the programming time drastically. We’ve always tried to break the mould and come up with solutions that are new, modern, and unique. As far as automation goes, there was a time when it was in the early stages when it came to India, and we did the integration of heating of the pool, integration of the fireplace, integration of the bollards, and integration of the lift. If suppose a car is detected 100 metres from the house, the lift overrides all the functions, comes down, opens, and stays for the owner. The bollards go down after informing security. So, the level of automation that we achieved was futuristic in those times. The automation segment today is integrating everything that is connected in a house, including your lighting, AC, curtains, security, Audio/Video and access control. Earlier, each of them was handled individually. Today, with the constant, cutting-edge evolution of automation, you can integrate every technology in the house and use it seamlessly. For instance, in a home cinema with a click of a button, you can close the curtains and dim the lights while the projector gets warmed up for viewing and all your electronics are ready for a nice movie experience. All you have to do is rev up the volume to your desired level.

What are some of the most challenging Smart residential projects you have worked on where there was scope for adopting the latest Smart Home technology?

Over the years, we have had multiple residential projects, and the requirements expected to match the vision were quite challenging; however, we managed to exceed the expectations, and one such residential project we designed was for an entire house in 2008. We had to make audio and video installations throughout the house. We had different kinds of installations made. Whether it was designing and creating glass speakers for the Pooja room, custom speakers with digital art for the master bedroom as well as the daughter’s room, or creating rock speakers for the terrace, we had to come up with the designs and plans for the house. For the home theatre, we had to fit In- wall digital speakers. While the requirements then were new, they were certainly challenging as well as fascinating at the same time.

How do you foresee the home cinema industry 5 years down the line?

I think we’ve barely reached the tip of the iceberg. As infrastructure keeps developing, so will the houses and spaces designed for it. Home cinema has almost become skeletal, like the structure of a house. Every new house has a home theatre designed for it. There is huge scope for home cinema, especially in India. There’ll be far more sophisticated and advanced smart home integrations as well as audio technologies in the future. The availability of good content to stream or watch is abundant as compared to 20 years ago. With an increase in content to watch, visual and spatial audio can reach undiscovered heights. For instance, a few years ago, we were working on a home project, and our briefing was to create a ‘maximum result with a minimalist look’. A few years down the line, we’re not sure what’s in store for us, but we’re definitely open to trying the best of what technology has to offer.

IoT and AI automation systems as the future of this segment? Can you share your views on the same?

While the pace at which IoT and AI automation are coming into our lives can be a little unexpected and overwhelming, we need to accept that soon they will become a part of all of our lives. With respect to MSR, our vision is to incorporate all the services and technologies that are going to foster the best solutions for our future projects, not just in Hyderabad but across India.

What is your future vision for your Company?

Essentially, what we at MSR strive for every day is to create rooms that become one-stop shops for all forms of entertainment. We always intend to make sound rooms where you can enjoy unrestrained music without worrying about disturbing others. In the coming years, we don’t just want to expand our creativity and plausibility in redefining sound rooms; we also want to leave an immersive and unparalleled experience for our clients. We’ll constantly keep evolving and redefining acoustics, personalization, sustainability, and advanced multi-purpose rooms to levels unheard of.

He emphasizes Sony’s exclusive technologies like Triluminos Pro, Acoustic Surface Audio+, Dolby Vision ATMOS, among others.

Could you please provide a brief overview of Sony’s history and expertise in the Electronics Industry, specifically in the TV business?

Sony India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation in Japan, has been a premium brand in various product categories including television, digital imaging, personal audio, home entertainment, gaming, car audio and professional solutions since its establishment in 1994. Recently, Sony India showcased the new HT-A5000 and HT-A3000 sound bars at a limited press conference. Shohei Toyoda, Head of Audio Business at Sony India, stated at the unveiling that India has a stronger demand than more affluent Asian countries like Singapore for home audio devices, particularly sound bars. From a sales and market perspective, India is a significant market for home audio.

According to Toyoda, consumers in markets like Singapore and Malaysia are more inclined towards mobile audio products such as headphones and Bluetooth speakers as they prefer to spend more time outdoors and therefore usage of home audio devices is less. In comparison, India is predominantly a home audio market where the usage of both TVs and home theatre systems is high.

The Japanese consumer electronics giant is targeting premium consumers with its new A-series sound bars, consisting of HT-A3000 and HT-A5000. The HT-A3000 is a 3.1-channel bar with a 3.1 sound bar with left, centre, and right channels, plus built-in dual subwoofers. It takes advantage of Sony’s 360 spatial sound mapping and sound field optimisation technologies, which basically customise the sound for your specific living room using microphones and create “phantom” speakers based on the environment’s acoustic profile. The bar comes with immersive Dolby Atmos sound and includes support for Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and Bluetooth audio playback.

The HT-A5000, which is 5.1.2 sound bar sports three discrete drivers for left, centre, and right channel duty, two up-firing speakers for height effects, and two bass drivers. The HT-A5000 supports both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X immersive audio formats as well as hi-res audio and Sony’s 360 Reality Audio. The HT-A5000 is a step above the A3000 and both new sound bars join the HT-A7000 which is a 7.1.2 system and costs Rs 179,980 in the market.

The Sony HT-A5000 starts at Rs 1,11,980 and the HT-A3000 retails for Rs 83,980. The price includes an additional wireless sub-woofer (SA-SW5/SA-SW3) consumers can pair with the soundbar.

Ankur Agrawal, Founder, Visual Tech in conversation with Smart Home World, shares his insights on the cross-compatibility of brands, energy-saving features, and trends in smart automation systems.

Our professional readers would like to know about Visual Tech?

Visual Tech is a Hyderabad-based proprietary firm founded in 2013. Initially, we concentrated solely on the sale of projectors for residential and commercial spaces. As new trends emerged and technology developed, we diversified into other verticals, including screens, displays, video conferencing and integration. We introduced complete home theatre solutions to our list of services six years ago. Being proprietary we are competing with big brands and competitors. Installations were challenging at first since we only supplied the equipment and the client or a third party was in charge of the installation. However, we eventually began to provide on-site services, which allowed us to generate more revenue.

What are the key products and services offered by the company?

Our key offerings include projectors manufactured by Sony, JVC, BenQ, and Epson; audio components produced by Denon, Marantz, FOCAL, JBL, Monitor Audio, B&W and Bose; automation components developed by UpHome Automation and RTI. In the display category, we stock products from a number of different companies, like AERO, Samsung, and LG.

What considerations are necessary while installing an AV solution?

When a client asks for an AV solution, we first figure out if the user will be able to use the technology easily. We educate the client in operating the product. The after-sales service is also an important criteria when selecting a specific brand. We also see that the spare parts are easily accessible so that we can turn things around quickly.

We offer solutions that are compatible with a number of brands because cross-compatibility can be an issue at times. UpHome Automation, for example, works well on both Android and iOS smartphones. Before installing any type of audiovisual system, we analyse the wattage of the speakers and determine which segment of amplifiers are compatible with them. As a result, we receive our solutions from a variety of sources, depending on the client’s needs and budget.

Lighting is also an important consideration. To eliminate issues such as glare, we are exceedingly cautious about how the systems are interconnected. When making calculations, we regularly use our database of previous projects. They act as a guide and help us avoid blunders. We make sure to deliver designs to the client ahead of time to ensure seamless integration. When working on a commercial project, we consider the size of the room as well as the number of individuals that will be present at any given time.

What are the USPs of Visual Tech?

At Visual Tech, we prioritise becoming better listeners. This is necessary throughout the design and planning phase so that we can offer our clients a feasible choice to install. By attentively listening, we not only provide a solution that meets the user’s requirements but also save them a substantial amount of money during installation and in the long term.

We provide quick turnaround times and are available to service users seven days a week by leveraging in-house expertise. We provide original serial numbers to maintain our clients’ trust. Our in-house designers develop 2D and 3D drawings for the project at the client’s request to explain how the system works.

Our demo rooms are also a unique selling point. The client’s experience there increases their likelihood of purchasing the solution. We offer demos and have designed packages based on our research and experience that cater to a large number of clients’ individual demands and budgets.

Describe in depth the benefits of custom A/V solutions to the user.

Any custom A/V solution gives the user complete control. It is fully up to the individual to watch what and when they wish to watch. An immersive theatre experience in the comfort of their own home. A private media room allows users to unwind and spend time alone or with family and friends.

The combination of high-quality visuals, professional audio and full automation brings entertainment to a new level. Access to cutting-edge technology is widely regarded to be advantageous because it increases the market value of the space.

Are your products equipped with energy-saving features? What tangible benefits does the user receive?

Our initial proposal to the client highlights the energy-efficient facilities. Our devices include energy-saving features. Eco mode on projectors reduces the brightness of the lamp. Similarly, amplifiers can be configured to consume less power from a power supply.

One of our automation projects included an energy-efficiency case study. The project featured complete automation of the home, from entry gates to exhausts and ventilation. Motion sensors were installed to regulate the lights. Human-centric lighting and other smart home automation features were included. The study’s objective was to determine how much energy was consumed and how much was saved as a direct result of automation, as well as where efficiency may be enhanced.

What was the demographic of your target market? Who are the primary buyers?

Most of our buyers in the residential market are people who buy or live in villas or bungalows in upcoming areas or in gated communities. We have also worked with apartments in high rises as well.

In the commercial segment, we have helped MNCs with video conferencing and AV solutions. In addition to that, we have provided clients in the government sector with video conferencing systems and displays. For panels and displays, hospitals have also been among our clientele.

We have marketed displays to people in the hospitality business. There is a growing demand for AV solutions. There is a market for audio and video solutions. So it’s a new market that we want to look into. We currently have 32 interior designers and 13 architects on board.

What are the most recent trends in the A/V industry?

Our emphasis has always been on the residential segment.  We had a number of enquiries for custom AV projects during Covid, however, due to the extraordinarily intensive workload and strong demand, these projects were implemented after lockdown as our cities were opening up. We have seen a rise in commercial projects, although majority of our projects are still residential.

In terms of future trends, the customer knows what they want and is operating within a realistic budget.

What was the game-changing breakthrough in the audio-video sector, and how did it impact our way of life?

HDMI is a game changer in the market since connectivity has become extremely simple. Any product from any brand that has an HDMI input and output can be paired with any other product from any brand.

Another noteworthy change is that people can now get the technology at a price they can afford. Users now have many options to choose from because so many new brands continue to enter the markets.

Due to the shrinking sizes of residential and commercial spaces, how important do you believe space management is for city dwellers? What solution does Visual Tech provide for optimal space management with a touch of luxury?

When space is an issue, there are a few options. To begin, we connect via Bluetooth or WiFi. Second, we strive to minimise cabling in such settings by using equipment that allows plug and play, such as short throw projectors, satellite speakers, lower screen sizes and so on.

We recently completed a project in which the room was barely 10 x 12. We chose a 90-inch screen, a 4K short-throw projector, and satellite speakers with Atmos. We were able to modify the package to accommodate a reduced room area and deliver a 4K solution.

Changing out projectors for television screens and installing a powerful soundbar is yet another strategy for optimising the use of space. The experience that one gets from using one of these systems is comparable to that of using a home theatre.

How would you separate the Indian market for premium display, projection, and audio systems from the global market? What brands do you believe are suited for Indian homes?

The quantity of exposure to new technology makes a significant difference. In this regard, the Indian market is still evolving. Alternative technology must be adopted instead of traditional methods.

For example, the international market favours digital outdoor advertising to printed billboards. This product has the potential to be profitable in India. Large digital displays in commercial locations can also be a lucrative advertising venture as well.

Consumer psychology is another variation between the Indian market and others. Even while the number of Indians adopting AV solutions is expanding significantly, they are still those who are cautious to commit. In other nations, specialised AV solutions have become a way of life but it is considered luxury here.

Audiophile-grade speakers from B&W and Focal are part of the home theatre systems. For budget-friendly alternatives brands like Monitor Audio, JBL Elac, and so on, are the best solutions. Brands like Bose are frequently asked for a home theatre upgrade rather than a brand-new setup.

What are your areas of expertise in sectors such as commercials, hospitality and retail interiors? Which of your brand’s offerings do you make available for projects of this nature?

Our areas of expertise include residential AV solutions as well as digital display for the commercial and retail sectors. When it comes to high-end projects, we offer projectors made by Sony and JVC. And also offer displays made by LG and Samsung. We provide a variety of video conferencing solutions, including interactive screens for conference rooms made by Polycom and Logitech.

What are the most popular and sought-after brands for 4K and 8K cables and accessories?

The majority of the cable that we utilise comes from AudioQuest. We do make use of notable names, including premium brands like Kordz.

CES, the annual Consumer Electronics Show, one of the biggest technology events, is set to return to its live in-person format in 2022. The event went all-digital in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), hosting CES, has confirmed that 2100+ exhibitors across 44 tech categories have registered to appear at CES.

CES 2022 starts from Jan 5th – Jan 8th, 2022. Catering to the virtual needs of the pandemic, an online element is crucial. For safety reasons the venues have changed and improved upon air circulation, and the event will further require proof of COVID-19 vaccination (both doses) from attendees as well.

Several new categories are to be introduced at CES 2022, including food tech, space tech, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and more.
From India, seven companies have signed up to exhibit, and five of them are in the event’s startup area — Eureka Park. Enverde Altifarm and H-Bots Robotics are to name a few.

Below are a few companies and their showcase items at CES 2022:

SAMSUNG AT CES 2022

Samsung has been consistently showcasing a load of products at CES over the years, and one can anticipate a range of products shown off at CES 2022. From several new 4K and 8K Neo QLED TVs, following up last year’s excellent Samsung QN90A and QN900A models. In the smartphone arena, more mid-range phones and maybe more about the Samsung Galaxy S22 flagship range.

SONY AT CES 2022

One can never anticipate what Sony will have for consumers in any given year. From Sony’s audio department, one can hope for a new lineup of digital media players (i.e. Walkmans) as well as a pair of premium headphones or two, some wireless speakers, and, from the TV side, at least three to four new 4K and 8K screens form the 2022 Sony TV lineup.

LG AT CES 2022

LG Electronics (LG) all-in-one home air care solution designed to deliver the benefits of an air purifier, fan, and heater in a stylish form factor is set to make its world debut at CES 2022. Developed to meet the needs of the work-from-home lifestyle, the all-new PuriCare™ AeroTower Air Purifying Fan offers personalized comfort that makes any indoor activity more pleasant and comfortable.

EVVR AT CES 2022

Evvr’s In-Wall Relay Switch can be integrated discreetly into regular light switches, transforming it into a smart and wirelessly controllable device. This switch, along with the Evvr apps, will be exhibited Jan. 5-8 at CES 2022 in booth 53426, Venetian Expo.

PANASONIC AT CES 2022

Panasonic brings to CES two big announcements – one for its new OLED TV and another for its Technics line of vinyl players and headphones.

Z-WAVE PAVILION & Z WAVE SMART HOUSE AT CES 2022

The Z-Wave Pavilion and Z-Wave Smart House will host a large live display of new smart home devices at CES 2022.The Z-Wave Alliance, the standards development organization dedicated to advancing the smart home and Z-Wave® technology, will return to CES 2022 in Las Vegas to host the Z-Wave Pavilion and the Z-Wave Smart House.

Below is a list of smart home brands in the Z-Wave Pavilion:

  • Aeotec
  • Airzone North America Corp
  • Alfred International
  • Schlage (Allegion)
  • DEN Smart Home
  • Flex Automation
  • Homey (Athom)
  • Jasco
  • Masonite
  • Remotec
  • Silicon Labs
  • Vision
  • Yale (ASSA ABLOY)
  • Zooz

Some predictions for Smart Homes at CES 2022

Touchless tech was the talk of the event at CES 2021; from Kohler’s kitchen faucet that can dispense water by simply placing a hand in front of it, to Arlo’s video doorbell that can alert users when someone is standing on their doorstep rather than needing to push the doorbell. All thanks to the ongoing effects of the global pandemic, consumers can expect to see a lot more touchless tech at CES 2022.

Other smart home devices include home security cameras with better resolutions and smarter AI and more robot vacuums.

How To Register

Registration for CES 2022 is available to the consumer technology industry now at the CES website. The CTA intends to have a $300 fee charge. The fee will apply to attendees, including retailers, but credentialed journalists and analysts will be exempt.

The world has adapted and changed for the pandemic and technology has aided in keeping us connected healthy and safe. For those unable to travel to CES 2022, a digital venue will allow people to experience the CES. An opportunity for online visitors to watch the exciting live keynotes with GM, Samsung, T-Mobile, and Abbott.

Safety Protocols In CES 2022

The safety and security of everyone are important to focus on for CES 2022. All participants are required to provide proof of vaccination. In terms of masks, everyone attending the event is required to follow state and local guidelines and what the CDC mandates.

The supplied Onkyo system is factory-matched to harmonize with the amp’s unique sound signature. These compact units are pleasingly heavy thanks to large magnets and full-range drivers. The neat size makes for easy placement on any wall.
