Milind Bargal Interior Designers have designed a home with a unified control system by partnering with Eagle Techsec and Communications India Pvt. Ltd., which has resulted in a home characterised by reliability, flexibility, and comfort.

Renowned Architect and Interior Designer, Milind Bargal has designed an opulent residence for the Kakwani family that is a blend of sumptuous design with cutting-edge technology. This home is located in Vijay Nagar in Indore and is spread over an area of 16,000 sq ft.  The client’s brief to the Milind Bargal Interior Designers was to have a unified control system for the entire home, ensuring ease of operation without complexity. Milind Bargal Interior Designers collaborated with Eagle Techsec and Communications India Pvt. Ltd. to successfully integrate lighting, shades, audio-visual equipment, security surveillance, and HVAC under a single, easily accessible platform. The design prioritized minimalistic and user-friendly lighting and shade keypads, particularly for the client’s parents. Reliability was a key factor in system selection.

Integration of Smart Home Technologies

The designer opted for a wired system for lighting and AV controls, keeping in mind the reliability size of the home. Lutron handled lighting and shades, SAVANT integrated audio-visual controls and security features, while Coolmaster managed HVAC. A dedicated smart device application provided centralised control, complemented by Lutron keypads strategically placed for effortless operation.

“Understanding the importance of simplicity, the lighting and shades’ keypads were customized to the client’s preferences, and engraved by Lutron for easy identification. SAVANT application UI was tailored uniquely for each family member, ensuring a personalised and user-friendly experience.” explains Milind Bargal.

Not compromising on the security aspect, the interior design team opted for Honeywell surveillance cameras that cover the entire property, incorporating varifocal cameras for optimal visibility at the main gate. EEKEY access controls managed servant entries with customizable schedules. Intrusion alarms by AJAX and Texecom fortified vulnerable entry points, integrated with lighting controls for enhanced security. Lutron’s vacation mode provided an added layer of safety, simulating occupancy during the client’s absence. The integration of a firewall into the house networking system ensured the constant safety of data and privacy, even from potential interference by household staff.

Entertainment Space

The entertainment area has been equipped with the client’s desire for an immersive entertainment experience. Configured as a 5.1.2 surround sound system with ATMOS, it has Martin Logan speakers, an Epson projector, and an Onkyo audio-video receiver. The emphasis on easy operation extended to a user-friendly lighting and shades keypad in each area, along with a personalized SAVANT UI for managing other services.

One of the most important aspects of this project is the lighting. The designer opted for Lutron, an industry-leading brand known for its reliability and flexibility was chosen for lighting and shade controls throughout the house. The decision was rooted in the brand’s reputation for inventing dimming and controls.

Keeping the scope of future expansion, Eagle Techsec and Communications ensured the system’s scalability by implementing an IP platform. This choice allows for the seamless integration of future technologies and accommodates evolving homeowner needs without the constraints of an analog system.

Overall, Milind Bargal Interior Designers has transcended conventional luxury with this smart home project, seamlessly weaving together aesthetics and technology.

Chitesh Chachan and Aayush Arya collaborate to convert a mundane office into a Smart Office.

In the bustling city of Siliguri, where urban life collides with breathtaking natural beauty, a prestigious office space owned by Aayush Arya, Director/Partner of Relay Automation, has undergone a remarkable transformation. This transformation has turned the office into an inviting and efficient workspace, characterized by luxurious aesthetics and cutting-edge automation, all thanks to Chitesh Chachan, Founder of Smart Hub and Director/Partner of Relay Automation.

Four and a half years ago, Chitesh Chachan took a bold step and founded Smart Hub. Shortly after, he joined forces with his partner, Aayush Arya, at Relay Automation. Their collaboration would soon lead to an exceptional project that showcased their innovative prowess.

Collaboration and Design Process

The project aimed to create a workspace that not only radiated opulence but also seamlessly integrated advanced electrical and automation systems. Chitesh Chachan shared his insights into the design process, emphasizing the project’s unique challenges. He explained, “While our expertise primarily lies in smart home installations, this project took us beyond our typical scope of work. The goal was not just to provide electricity but to create a robust infrastructure that seamlessly integrates with future smart systems.”

Designing a robust electrical and automation infrastructure for Aayush Arya’s office in Siliguri presented distinctive challenges. The team had to anticipate and overcome various obstacles, from optimizing electrical circuits within the constraints of a compact urban space to ensuring that the design would harmoniously blend with upcoming smart technologies.

Leveraging their extensive background in smart home technology, the team tackled the electrical design with a forward-thinking perspective. Every detail of the electrical layout was meticulously planned to ensure the optimal positioning of outlets, switches, and fixtures in every area of the office. It was imperative to execute these installations with architectural aesthetics in mind, leaving no room for unsightly wires or outlets that might detract from the overall visual appeal.

Seamless Digital Connectivity

In acknowledgment of the ever-growing demand for seamless digital connectivity, especially in a setting where business and leisure naturally converge, the team implemented a managed network solution that went far beyond the ordinary. This exceptional network was strategically designed with access points throughout the property to guarantee uninterrupted internet connectivity in every corner of this luxurious office space, an absolute necessity in our increasingly digital-driven world.

As the project neared completion, it stood as a testament to the artistry of automation. Beyond equipping the property with a top-tier automation framework, their managed network solution ensured that the office’s occupants would always remain connected, whether they were engaged in virtual business meetings or indulging in their preferred entertainment.

While their core expertise is firmly rooted in smart home installations, this project reaffirmed their adaptability in the realm of automation. Their holistic approach, deeply informed by their extensive experience within the Siliguri smart home landscape, empowered them to excel in a project that, while distinct from their usual work, was equally significant.

This remarkable endeavor in Siliguri underscores their unwavering commitment to meeting their client’s precise requisites, even if it entails venturing beyond their comfort zone. Their proficiency in smart home systems significantly influenced their electrical design methodology, ensuring that the property was not only powered but also perfectly poised for the future. If you’re in search of a team that seamlessly merges electrical expertise with a forward-thinking mindset, your quest ends right here with Chitesh Chachan, Aayush Arya, and their visionary companies, Smart Hub and Relay Automation.

Guest Room Management System is a game-changer for the hotel industry offering guests a more comfortable, convenient and personalized experience while helping hotel owners streamline their operations and boost revenue. Read on to know more…

Smart hotels around the world are defined by the seamless integration of smart technology, automation, security, and convenience. Traditional hotels have evolved into smart hotels in response to the increasing expectations of tech-savvy travelers. Today’s modern travelers, in addition to luxurious decor, anticipate a higher level of convenience, personalization, and efficiency, which can only be achieved through the incorporation of Guest Room Automation.

As the preferences of travellers continue to evolve, Guest Room Automation is the solution that meets their growing demand for convenience and personalization. It empowers guests to effortlessly tailor their room environment, from adjusting lighting, drawing up curtains/blinds, and temperature control to managing entertainment systems, all with the simple touch of a button. This high level of customization caters particularly well to the expectations of tech-savvy guests.

Moreover, hotels that embrace Guest Room Automation gain a competitive advantage by attracting a wider spectrum of patrons. From those seeking luxurious and cutting-edge technology experiences to business travelers in pursuit of efficient stays, this technology appeals to diverse guest segments. Notably, Guest Room Automation can also support premium pricing strategies and foster guest loyalty. In addition, it contributes to sustainability and energy efficiency as it optimizes energy consumption based on occupancy and individual preferences.

The adoption of Guest Room Automation is further driven by an array of factors. Enhanced security features, the convenience of mobile check-in and check-out options, streamlined operations, and the increasing familiarity of guests with technology all play pivotal roles in promoting this technological advancement within the hospitality industry.

What is Guest Room Management System? (design Box)

A Guest Room Management System (GRMS) is a specialized software solution designed to enhance the operational efficiency of hotels and similar lodging establishments. Its primary purpose is to streamline the management of room inventory and reservations. This comprehensive system encompasses tools for efficiently handling reservations, tracking room availability, setting pricing, managing billing, and organizing customer information.

Incorporated within the GRMS are valuable features such as housekeeping management, inventory control, and robust reporting and analytics tools. These elements empower hotel managers to make informed, data-driven decisions to improve their operations. By optimizing room occupancy and pricing strategies, a Guest Room Management System not only bolsters the hotel’s efficiency but also elevates the guest experience, ultimately leading to increased revenue.

Adding his insight Jubin Thomas, Territory Sales Manager -India & Subcontinent Region Lutron GL Sales & Services Pvt. Ltd.  says, “For properties looking to take the guest experience to the next level, the answer can be delivering heightened comfort and control of the room environment. Control of the lighting level, drapery position, roller shade position, and temperature set point can be streamlined and beautified to create guestrooms that delight and offer comfort at the touch of a button.  The Lutron myRoom guest management system offers an improved guest experience both on arrival and throughout the stay. Welcome scenes are activated upon guest arrival. Guests open the door to a carefully curated scene that showcases the view and the finishes and furnishings in the room in its best light. There are currently 55,000 guestrooms in the world that use Lutron myRoom to deliver a special guest experience and extraordinary comfort. The recently built Ritz Carlton in Mexico City is one incredible example.”

Solution and Technology

Some of the key automation functions are it lowers operational costs. When a guest leaves his or her room, for instance, automatic occupancy sensing and reporting allows housekeeping to make informed decisions about when to clean a room. While automated control of shades or tinting glass can cut cooling costs, particularly where the building facade receives direct solar radiation.

Hotels waste the most energy when rooms are unoccupied. Automation from companies such as Control4, Lutron, Legrand,  ABB, BuildTrack, Havells, Siemens, Crestron, Schineder  to name a few companies offer various solutions.  The energy-management system can also receive that notification, prompting the temperature to return to a lower-power-consuming neutral level. Hotels often have unoccupied rooms on a given night, and if the temperature and lighting isn’t controlled, it is simply costing the hotel money.

Then there are the benefits gained from guests using Apps on their smartphones. Not only is technology making the check-in and check-out procedure more convenient, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology incorporates keyless entry into a guest’s mobile device. Geolocation-based services provide additional benefits, such as monitoring guest arrival and departure status, room usage and trends, enhancing emergency response, and directing staff and guests to available meeting spaces and parking.

Wireless systems using radio-frequency identification (RFID) are also being used to enable access to rooms and to detect when people or things enter and leave. There are companies offering solutions in which an RFID chip is mounted on the underside of food carts. RFID readers that capture the transmission of the tag can be installed in hallways. So when a cart rolls into or out of a guest room, the reader senses that and sends an alert to staff that a cart at a specific location is ready to be collected. That saves labour time and improves guest satisfaction.

“One of the key functionalities of GRMS is its ability to communicate with third-party systems, including supervisors, access control systems, and Property Management Systems (PMS). There is a diverse range of control options available within GRMS, catering to various requirements and aesthetics. These controls encompass conventional (or mechanical) controls, BUS-SCS controls, touch controls, automatic controls (utilizing sensors and door contacts), hotel-specific controls (such as Keycard readers and DND/MUR control), and “network” controls, which involve commands from external systems like supervisors, access control systems, and PMS. This array of control options offers a broad spectrum of functions, ergonomic designs, and aesthetics to suit any hotel environment, whether it’s traditional, modern, or luxurious. The “network” controls play a crucial role in enabling seamless integration with external systems, enhancing the efficiency and functionality of the GRMS in the hotel setting.” explains Mohit Suyal, Product Marketing Manager, Home Automation, Lighting Control and GRMS, Legrand.

Advantages and Benefits

Room Control: GRMS systems enable guests to control various room amenities like lighting, climate (heating and cooling), curtains or blinds, and even entertainment systems (TV, audio) through a centralized control interface, often provided via a touchscreen panel, mobile app, or TV remote.

Energy Management: The system can optimize energy consumption by adjusting the room’s lighting and climate control based on occupancy and guest preferences, thus helping hotels reduce their energy costs and environmental impact.

Security: GRMS can integrate with the hotel’s security system, including door locks and access control. This helps in ensuring the safety and security of guests and their belongings.

Room Status Monitoring: The system can monitor room occupancy and status, allowing hotel staff to better manage room turnovers and cleaning schedules. For example, when a guest checks out, the system can automatically switch off lights and HVAC systems.

Integration with Property Management System (PMS): Many GRMS solutions are integrated with the hotel’s PMS. This integration allows for more efficient check-in and check-out processes, as well as billing and room assignment coordination.

Guest Services: The system can provide information and services to guests, such as room service ordering, scheduling wake-up calls, or requesting housekeeping services.

Customization: Hotels can customize the GRMS to align with their branding and guest experience. For instance, they can set up lighting and climate profiles for different room types or tailor the interface to match the hotel’s style.

Remarkably, Legrand’s GRMS can natively communicate with the BACnet protocol without the need for additional gateways, ensuring a streamlined integration process.

The central tool that connects these systems is the Building Management System (BMS), a multi-protocol platform responsible for establishing links between different systems, such as access control and GRMS. It also serves as a translator between various system protocols, ensuring that all data flows cohesively and can be effectively monitored by one or more supervisors.

Legrand’s successful track record with globally and nationally renowned hotel brands, including Marriott, Accor, Hyatt, RHG, and IHG, underscores their commitment to delivering comprehensive, integrated solutions to the hospitality industry.

Jubin Thomas, Territory Sales Manager -India & Subcontinent Region Lutron GL Sales & Services Pvt. Ltd. introduces the Lutron myRoom guest management system, emphasizing its ability to enhance the guest experience from the moment they arrive and throughout their stay. This system creates welcoming scenes that are activated as guests enter their rooms, offering a carefully curated ambiance that highlights the room’s view and interior finishes. Notably, this system has been successfully employed at the Ritz Carlton in Mexico City.

Within the guestrooms, the Lutron myRoom guestroom management solution seamlessly integrates control over lighting, temperature, drapery, and roller shades into a single system that can be easily managed from a single keypad. This innovation is particularly valuable at the Mexico City Ritz, where approximately 90 percent of guestrooms feature private balconies. While the views are stunning, the intense afternoon sun can be a challenge. Providing guests with convenient control over their lighting, temperature, and shade positions ensures their comfort from morning to midnight.

For control and ease of use, the design team opted for the Palladiom wallstation in guestrooms, which handles lighting, temperature, and shade control. These sleek and intuitive keypads are strategically placed by the bedside, in the bathroom, near the entry, and close to the window, offering guests straightforward control over their environment and exceeding their expectations.

Going beyond in-room comfort, expert lighting designer Jose Cardona designed Welcome Scenes that greet guests with beautifully illuminated rooms, tailored to the time of arrival, with open draperies revealing the breathtaking city views. This comprehensive approach ensures a memorable and delightful stay for all guests.

Mohamed Syeed, Vice President, Enterprise Solutions BuildTrack informs that BuildTrack is at the forefront of the smart hotel automation solutions industry, dedicated to transforming the guest experience and optimizing hotel operations. Their innovative solutions are meticulously designed to promote energy efficiency, centralize room monitoring, and enhance guest satisfaction, all while prioritizing safety and security.

Among BuildTrack’s remarkable offerings, their Keycard-Based Control system stands out for its substantial contribution to energy efficiency. This system also introduces a unique capability, enabling centralized monitoring of room occupancy and guest needs. This not only ensures top-tier service for guests but also reinforces their safety and security.

The Outdoor and Indoor panels in guest rooms go beyond their decorative role; they serve as pivotal tools for hotel operations. These panels enable centralized monitoring of room occupancy, allowing the front desk to keep a watchful eye on the physical presence in each room throughout the hotel.

Within the guest rooms, BuildTrack’s Smart Touch Switches and Keypads are more than just aesthetic enhancements; they offer immense convenience for guests. Guests can easily navigate their new environment without the complexity of deciphering multiple switches. Moreover, the option to control room devices via smartphones is particularly appealing, granting guests the ability to manage lighting and curtains with a simple touch on their mobile devices.

BuildTrack’s Glass Touch Switches, adorned with colourful LEDs, not only complement the room’s decor but also contribute to an elegant and modern aesthetic. Beyond aesthetics, these switches empower guests to have unprecedented control over their room’s environment, allowing them to make service requests such as Do Not Disturb (DND), Make My Room (MMR), or Laundry. These controls are conveniently located not only at the room’s entryway but also at multiple locations within the room as needed.

Centralized Monitoring lies at the core of BuildTrack’s offerings, recognizing the value of streamlined access to information in hotel operations. All aspects related to a guest room, including occupancy, DND status, and housekeeping status, are made available centrally to the hotel staff. This enhances the staff’s ability to stay informed about various guest requirements and respond efficiently. Additionally, these notifications can be sent to the staff’s mobile phones, ensuring they are continuously updated on guest needs, even while on the move within the hotel.

Energy Efficiency is another significant advantage of BuildTrack’s solutions. Excessive energy consumption is a major cost component for hotel operations and an environmental concern. BuildTrack offers solutions for occupancy-based power and air conditioning control, with options for keycard-based or sensor-based systems. This flexibility allows hotel management to choose the most suitable option for delivering a memorable guest experience while maintaining an economically and environmentally conscious footprint. BuildTrack even provides retrofit solutions for controlling existing AC units, including split ACs, thermostats, and VRV/VRFs. Motion sensors can be strategically placed throughout the hotel to enhance lighting energy efficiency in areas such as aisles, bathrooms, elevators, and more.

Importantly, retrofitting existing hotels is a viable option that should not be overlooked. BuildTrack’s solutions require minimal wiring changes and can seamlessly integrate with existing infrastructure, presenting existing hotels with a valuable opportunity to enhance their offerings and elevate the guest experience.

Sunil J, Head – Building Solutions, ABB

ABB’s advanced smart hotel room solutions, powered by i-bus KNX technology, offer a comprehensive array of features to elevate the guest experience while delivering cost-saving benefits to hotel operators. Within the realm of lighting control, the system provides the flexibility of switching, dimming, central control, and time-based adjustments, alongside customizable light scenes. Presence-dependent control ensures energy efficiency. For blind and shutter management, various sun protection options are available, and the HVAC system integrates window position-dependent control and presence-dependent operation, accommodating different heating and cooling systems such as fan coils.

Energy and load management capabilities encompass circuit and socket outlet switching and real-time circuit monitoring. All of this can be seamlessly operated and visualized through a PC interface. ABB’s solution extends to central automation with support for complex logical operations, time-based scheduling, and collective scenes. The system easily interfaces with other building systems, thanks to its open protocol architecture, promoting a streamlined and efficient operation. The synergy between guest expectations for comfort and the management’s need for efficiency is expertly balanced.

In terms of safety and security, ABB takes a multi-layered approach. The system integrates with alarm systems, video surveillance, and technical alarms, reducing installation costs while maintaining performance. Open protocols facilitate smooth integration with third-party systems. To address guest data protection, ABB employs a four-level security strategy:

IP Security (Security Level 1): The system utilizes AES128 encrypted connections between the GRMS server and individual rooms, adhering to the KNX IP-Secure protocol and ISO/IEC 18033-3 standards. Unique Factory Device Setup Keys (FDSK) are configured via vendor-independent Engineering Tool Software (ETS). IP devices are required to support secure IP encryption.

Hotel IP Network Security (Security Level 2): The GRMS is connected to a secured Hotel IT Network via a dedicated VLAN, with network components safeguarded against unauthorized access. Each room’s IP connection is associated with a dedicated port on the network switch, using MAC address binding, ensuring it remains separate from guest or visitor access.

Data Security (Security Level 3): Group telegrams in guest room communications are encrypted, ensuring secure communication between sensors and actuators on the KNX TP or other media, such as KNX RF communication.

Bus Monitoring (Security Level 4): In-room KNX bus devices are continuously monitored by the GRMS server to prevent unauthorized disconnections and raise alarms in case of device faults or unauthorized physical access. Events are logged, and both pop-up messages and audible alarms are generated to maintain system integrity and security.

These technical details underscore ABB’s commitment to providing a robust and secure smart automation solution for hotels, prioritizing both guest satisfaction and data protection.

Ar. Manish Kumat has designed a Smart Home for a young couple in Indore that brings added comfort and convenience through smart automation to the homeowners.

Ar. Manish Kumat Design Cell headed by Manish Kumat has the extraordinary talent of seamlessly integrating nature as a part of interior spaces. The award-winning architect has designed some of the landmark projects over the years. Manish has recently designed a project in Indore for a young couple, where he has seamlessly integrated Nature, Design and Smart Automation which has not just provided ease of convenience but also provided foolproof security and energy efficiency which is the need of the hour.

This young couple wanted their four-bedroom apartment spread over an area of 1,890 sq ft to be converted into a spacious three-bedroom apartment with contemporary interiors and smart home technology. Adhering to the brief Ar. Manish broke a few walls to create a spacious space such as a large master bedroom with a lounge area and a walk-in closet space. In addition, Manish also created sleek, easy-to-maintain interiors, so he opted for furniture and fittings with straight lines and materials that are easy to clean.

Explaining his design approach and use of Smart Automation, Manish said, “I focused on providing the client with amenities to be functional and remotely controlled to offer them security, convenience, and energy saving. I had extensive discussions with them to understand their requirements. They wanted home automation from entrance access to the control of lighting, fans, air-conditioning, television, and curtains. Initially, we were a bit conservative in our approach toward smart technology due to fluctuations in voltage and unpredictable electricity supplies. However, this scenario has changed in the past few years as electricity supply has improved. Another point is that smart home automation is easier for the tech-savvy who easily understand how to control devices by an App on their phone or a networked device.” He further adds, “Though personally, I had not previously worked on smart home technology, we did thorough market research and went ahead and designed their home. We incorporated smart technology in different aspects of their home and living in a way that was inconspicuous while keeping to our design ethos of neat spaces with accent elements.”

After extensive research of the brands available in the market, the architect decided on Lutron for the lighting control system. For the lighting fixtures, they opted for Plus Light Tech which has a huge range of good quality fixtures and a good warranty as well. “The combination of Lutron and Plus Light Tech turned out to be amazing. After a thorough study of how smart lighting technology was to be incorporated into the home, each light had a separate wiring system as it went to the Lutron server. This had to be worked out in detail. We used a DALI driver that has a single interface for all light fixtures and controllers. This driver functions well. It helps to dim and tune the colour temperature of the lights. Thus, in one single light, the client gets a choice of temperature possibilities that makes it efficient and economical. For the entrance door, we opted for Yale digital door lock that offers access by a key as well as keyless (via number and biometrics).”

Advantages of Smart Automation

“As the client is a young couple and technology savvy, they found it easy to operate the automated systems. They are thus able to work with many amenities as per their preferences. For the lighting, they can create an ambiance in the interiors by opting for a particular tone and brightness of light such as soft in the evenings or in the living room and bright in the kitchen area. For controlling the sound of the television, we provided a sound bar that has a discreet speaker system that creates an effect close to that of a home theatre. A sound bar is space efficient and sound-effective.

Advice to Budding Professionals

“Clients are more tech-savvy today than in previous years. So, I would suggest that budding professionals should study products in the market, meet vendors and educate themselves about products and systems. Firstly, one must study the dynamics of the location of the site in terms of the availability of a regular supply of electricity and products if a backup is required. I feel it is better to go in for a high-quality product with a good warranty of several years so there is a good performance. A backup should be planned in case any system does not function, and this backup should be available at the earliest so the inconvenience caused to the client is minimized. All the systems should be explained thoroughly and demonstrated to the client before the project is handed over to the client.”

Overall, the architect has successfully combined his design philosophy and Smart Home Automation and delivered the projects within a stipulated time period to his clients.

Priyanka Singh is the founder and Principal Architect of Chalk Studio. She pursued Interior Design at The Parsons School of Design, in New York. She believes that a space should be designed while keeping all 5 senses in mind. Her design philosophy is about making an impact in the subtlest way as good design is as little design as possible because it concentrates on the essential aspects, contributing to the pure beauty or function of the space.

Smart Home World, speaks to Priyanka Singh who shares her views on Smart home Automation.

Residential Interiors have undergone a drastic transformation in order to enable a fast phase of work and flexibility. What is the role of smart automation systems in your projects?

Over the years there is a marked shift in the way smart home automation is perceived.  Clients are now demanding Smart Automation as that allows the user to enhance their experience by using smart home systems, especially lighting, and curtains to name a few. Smart automation systems create a luxurious experience for users as it lets them conveniently manage devices from any corner of the house. Plus, the other added advantage is that these systems offer eco-friendly solutions in the form of lighting control, and window treatments that cut down the energy bill and improve overall environs.

What are the latest automation systems that you have integrated into your residential projects?

Recently, we have used analog automation in one of our projects. This type of automation enables clients to operate their lights, curtains, and music system by the touch on their phones or touch keypads.

Apart from this, we are also using DALI (Digital Address Lighting Intelligence) dimmable lights in one of our ongoing projects which are cost-efficient and allows the user to access the light, audio, and curtains from any corner of the house.

What, according to you, are the must-have smart home products in today’s contemporary homes?

Temperature control lighting is necessary as it helps the users to change the colours and temperature of the lights according to their preferences and mood. Apart from this, smart security systems enable the user to maximise their locking system by adding multiple locks such as fingerprints, access cards, face locks, smartphones etc.

Furthermore, safety automated geysers and home purifiers help the users to note the timely usage of the products and will reduce energy consumption. Sound system control helps the users to control the music without getting up.

What are the major expectations of clients from smart automation systems? How have you fulfilled those expectations, and what are the Brands that you have integrated into their home?

In today’s digitized world where everybody is tech savvy, users want everything to be present on their smartphones, and this is where the smart home systems come into the picture. We came across the brand name Lutron, which has helped us to understand how automation in interior spaces has made our lives easier. The DALI automation highlights flexibility and helps the users to change the lighting and aesthetic of the house at a later stage as per their needs.

What role do System Integrators play when it comes to designing a smart home? How important is their role?

Smart-home integrators take on the task of building a smart-home system that can meet a homeowner’s expectations for technology that works reliably, without the continual need for tweaking. It provides one-person contact, which helps us with the solutions for our multiple needs and problems. System integrators are important because we have a specialized vendor that can come on board with their correct knowledge and solutions.

Products of which category (lighting, security, entertainment, etc.) witness maximum demand when it comes to integrating smart home devices while doing the interiors? Why?

From the interior point of view, temperature and lighting experience maximize the demand when it comes to smart home devices. These systems are cost-efficient and more sustainable in long-term use. It also reduces the efforts of the users to change their lights at a later stage.

What are the major benefits of Smart & Connected Homes in the current “Tech-Savvy Era”?

One of the major benefits of smart and connected homes is that it acts like living entity. Everything is on the user’s smartphone, which caters to their need in day-to-day life.

As we progress into the digital age, the lifestyle of the users will take a major shift as each and everything can be controlled through their phones, sensors, remotes, etc. This would enable the user to check on their homes when they are travelling.

How would you define the current demand for smart home integrations?

As the awareness of such products is increasing, the demand for them is also proportionally increasing. This gives assistance to the users in experiencing tech-friendly products with just a touch on their phones.

People are open to possibilities in terms of the technology shift and are excited about what the future hold for them, which would make their lives much better.

In which sector (hospitality, commercial, residential), according to you, traditional devices and techniques are getting rapidly displaced to make room for smart devices and systems, aided with the latest technologies? And why?

Refreshing the memories of the school days, when security used to be a major concern has now been replaced with biometrics, the use of access cards for every room, and sensor door.

Smart lights, which are either sensor-based or remote-based, have drastically displaced traditional light fixtures. In residences, a shift from those shutter televisions to smart televisions has majorly taken place. These inbuilt smart televisions and other devices, such as automated curtains, are helping users to experience the technology in a much better way.

How do you foresee the Smart home industry 5 years down the line?

Five years down the line, all the services will be automated, helping the users to worry less about day-to-day concerns, such as security, energy consumption etc. The use of manual labour would be negligible, as the production of more robot-based machinery will take over them. Thus, making the process in any sector faster and with fewer mistakes.
