More often than not, we see Smart Homes where the technology must work with or around the design and decor of each room. This plush 4BHK apartment located in Bandra, Mumbai overlooking the panoramic view of the Sealink was no exception. For this Tech Savvy family, the aesthetics of the home was as important as the functionality and performance of the Smart Home Technology. The family wanted to have complete control over their home and the technology but without it being too complicated.

Mumbai-Based Avenue Sound took on the challenge of this whole-home install. Ashish Hingorani, Director, Avenue Sound adds,“As our clients are tech savvy and have been using smart home solution for many years, the goal was to create a state-of-the-art integrated smart home which is customized to their likes and adapted to their changing needs with three kids at home.”

Explaining the technicalities Ashish says, “The main focus of this Smart Home was to seamlessly integrate cutting-edge technology into the living space that serves dual purposes—hosting match-watching events and entertaining guests. The unique challenge lay in harmonizing a large projection screen and projector discreetly within the room, striking a delicate balance between visibility and concealment.” 

The team also had to focus on the lighting and window treatments, and their fundamental impact on the rest of the decor. The team worked towards integrating a system where at the press of a button, there is a change in the lighting scene and lowering or raising a fabric over the window that would transform the ambience of the room. Ashish further adds, “The challenge on our part was to give the family this power to control their environment without making it complicated, clunky, or worse, unreliable.”

Balancing Aesthetics and Technology

As Avenue Sound has been working with the clients for many years, they were very clear on the client’s requirements. They have built a robust automation design which would allow them full control of their home and customization at their fingertips. Using Savant Home Automation, they were able to provide them with an attractive user interface which could control their Lighting, Audio/Video, Security, HVAC, Window Shadings and also let them create and edit their own scenes to ensure they had complete control of how their home operated based on their experience with the home. “We also integrated digital touch screen keypads from Ekinex which remained completely in sync with the smart home. In case a scene was modified using the Savant Interface, the same scene would automatically be updated and remain in sync with the keypads as well.” explains Ashish.

The team has provided Ekey Biometric Access for their entrances and Master Wardrobe along with slim CCTV cameras and distinguished motion sensors that allows seamless blend of technology with design. Speakers and Subwoofers by Netherland-based Gray Sound became almost invisible in the ceiling so that no one was able to locate where the sound was coming from. “The most challenging part was concealing a short throw projector in the middle of the ceiling of the Living Room and ensuring it drops in the perfect location just ahead of the large chandelier to fill a 120-inch Projection Screen.” Says Ashish.

Ideal for single-room commercial applications such as meeting rooms, classrooms, and lecture halls, the KX4 combines an in-wall touch panel and hard button input with a built-in control processor. Miantic AV has announce a distribution partnership with Tyba in India. Tyba’s stylish, innovative Turn 2 now will be available in India and will be distributed by Miantic AV. Turn 2 is a room controller designed to adjust room parameters with a rotating outer ring. It is a classy round dial that gives a new elevated look to the home automation control system with an intuitive `Turn-Swipe-Touch’ control.

Turn 2 features a touch screen used to switch between control functions. It can be used either stand-alone, powered by USB-C or with one of the optional Bus Connectors. The Bus Connectors are designed to provide a mounting interface, power and optional system integration. On-screen controls can be used to change the temperature, fan speed, curtains, blinds, and other settings. Blinds and curtains can be opened and closed on their own or all at once. There are controls for the volume, for playing the music, and for skipping tracks.

There are a number of configurations in Turn 2

• Lights & Scenes: Users can set up control for up to five independent lights or light groups and up to eight light scenes, such as morning, evening, entertain, relax, Off, etc.
• Temperature: The temperature display and set point can be customised by the user. They can specify the temperature range and increment, as well as the source of the temperature. A temperature sensor is also included for monitoring.
• Fan: The user has the ability to regulate up to eight different speeds for the fan (e.g., Low to High).
• Humidity: Users are able to customise the control set point and the display of humidity.
• Climate Modes: Users have the ability to configure control of up to eight different modes, such as Away, Holiday, Home, Cooling, and Heating.
• Information Control: The Turn 2 display has the capability of providing the Air Quality, Air Pressure, and Humidity readings.
• Shades: Users have the ability to configure control of up to five different shades or shade groups.
• Volume: Users can configure control of volume either with or without media controls

In addition, the Turn 2 comes equipped with an LED that illuminates in the dark, making it easier to locate the controller. A motion sensor ensures that Turn 2 is alert and ready whenever it detects that you are approaching it. The Tyba app simplifies device setup, configuration, and control by providing a robust yet user-friendly interface for managing all Tyba products. Using the optional Wall Plate, users may place Turn 2 in an existing position or create a variety of other designs. The optional Table Stand allows it to be kept on a table or shelf.

Turn 2 is built for the future including a powerful ARM processor, an ultra-secure embedded operating system and jam-packed with technology. Smart home integration is enabled using wired proprietary communication and over Wi-Fi using Tyba’s REST API. Turn 2 also acts as a location beacon supporting iBeacon and Eddystone standards.

Turn 2 works natively with KNX, Crestron & Control4, providing the flexibility to integrate with an almost unlimited range of products and brands. The Somfy Clever Tilt Motor allows users to automate their existing 2-inch to 2.5-inch blinds and integrate them into their smart home. The kit includes seven adapters for mounting the drive motor to a blind’s tilt rod, three sets of adapters for securing the drive motor in a blind’s head rail, and a comprehensive instruction booklet. The Smart Space Awards 2022, were an astounding success held on the 20th of April, in conjunction with the Smart Home Expo, India’s largest tradeshow and conference catering to the Smart Home Technology brands and fanatics across the globe.

The AV and System Integration industry welcomes Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) back, as its debut in Barcelona is heralded as a long-awaited success.

After much anticipation, ISE finally arrived in grand style at the Fira de Barcelona, Gran Vía (10-13 May). With a total of 43,691 unique attendees from 151 countries, making 90,372 visits to the show floor, exhibitors reported busier than expected booths and many fruitful business connections.  

This was the first full ISE show since February 2020, when ISE said farewell to its previous home in Amsterdam and initial signs looked good for a busy week as queues began to form at the opening turnstiles. With 834 exhibitors in 48,000 square meters of show floor across six Technology Zones, ISE 2022 set a new benchmark with an easy-to-navigate venue and a host of opportunities to explore new solutions and drive new business.

The highlights of the event included seven ISE Conferences with more than 1,000 attendees, two keynote addresses, Refik Anadol and Alan Greenberg, presented to a packed audience, and two stunning projection mapping projects within the city of Barcelona.

Mike Blackman, Managing Director of ISE, explains that ISE 2022 is an event to be proud of, saying: “We are so pleased to have provided a successful platform for our exhibitors and partners to showcase their innovation and technology solutions.
