Designed by Homework Design headed by Architects Shabbir H Lilamwala and Murtaza Lilamwala Principal Architect Homework Design, this residence epitomizes opulence, sophistication, functionality, and a seamless blend of home automation creating an unparalleled living experience.

Nestled within a prestigious high-rise in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, this luxurious 5-bedroom apartment, meticulously crafted by Homework Design, stands as a testament to architectural excellence, interior sophistication, and seamless integration of technology.

Upon stepping into the foyer, guests are greeted by an aura of elegance and grandeur. The kitchen, a culinary haven, is a testament to both style and functionality. Clad in premium materials and equipped with state-of-the-art appliances, it seamlessly integrates with the living space, allowing for seamless entertainment and culinary experiences.

One of the most striking features of this apartment is its impeccable ventilation. Natural light floods every corner of the abode, enhancing the sense of openness and serenity. The strategically placed windows not only provide ample sunlight but also offer breathtaking views of the city skyline, serving as a constant reminder of Mumbai’s bustling energy.

The five luxuriously appointed bedrooms are havens of tranquility and indulgence. Each room is thoughtfully designed to offer the utmost comfort, with sumptuous bedding, custom-made furniture, and intricate detailing that reflects the owner’s discerning taste. Moreover, the city view from the bedrooms adds an extra layer of allure, offering a picturesque backdrop that evolves with the changing hues of the sky.

In addition to the lavish residential quarters, this apartment boasts an expansive office space, perfectly suited for remote work or business endeavors. The balcony l provides a serene outdoor retreat, ideal for relaxation or entertaining guests amidst the backdrop of Mumbai’s skyline.

Integration of Automation and Technology

The design team worked with System Integrator Harsh Shah from Beyond Alliance. Harsh Shah has worked towards providing user-friendly solutions tailored to the specific needs of clients. Adding his insight Murtaza Lilamwala says, “There are three non-negotiables for any tech design that we plan: (1) It has to work. (2) It must be easy to use yet fulfill all needs and (3) It has to be value for money.”

The home has automated lights, fans, curtains, AV, HVAC, and Integrated security solutions in this house. The Crestron lighting design and control are executed to perfection, with natural light in the space creatively manipulated to harmonize with artificial light. Motorized shades and drapes play a crucial role in achieving this seamless integration.

The attention to detail is evident in every aspect, with keypads meticulously selected from around the world. Each button is laser engraved, ensuring user-friendliness for individuals of all ages and tech-savvy levels. This house boasts a living room equipped with a motorised ultrashort throw projector with an optical dNp screen and an immersive in-ceiling audio Dolby Atmos surround sound system.

Speaking about the security systems Murtaza Lilamwala says, “We have also used an integrated security solution, where a facial ID and biometric reader is waiting to unlock the space at the speed and efficiency at which our iPhone unlocks itself. As a visitor notifies you with the same gadget a display phone in the kitchen or next to their bed helps them to FaceTime the visitor before they let them in. The same display can stream music in the room and control the colour temperature and intensity of every light to set the right vibe for that time of the day.”

The user experience is further enhanced through tailored Apps catering to individual needs, allowing customization at the user level with controls on their phones, tablets, watches and voice commands.

Balanced Ventilation with Energy Recovery

Modern apartments are designed air tight for comfort and avoiding noise and air pollution. This results in lack of adequate cross-ventilation to the occupants in the house. We rely on air conditioning systems to achieve comfort however fresh air ventilation is sacrificed as a result.

“To solve this problem, we have opted for Blutherm, introducing the concept of Balanced Ventilation with energy recovery to cater to the above scenario of ventilation in modern houses. Balanced Ventilation with Energy recovery involves a machine that supplies measured filtered fresh air in the living spaces like bedrooms, study rooms, and living rooms in the house, and extracts stale air from bathrooms, kitchens, and utility rooms at the same time. During this process both streams of air pass through a heat exchange module in the machine, that transfers the temperature of the air by up to 90% without mixing the air, thereby pre-cooling the outside fresh air passively before it enters the house, resulting in a reduced load on the air conditioning systems.” Explains MURTAZA LILAMWALA.

The Benefits and Functionality:

The benefits of implementing Blutherm system are multifaceted, addressing crucial aspects of indoor air quality and comfort. Firstly, it ensures a constant supply of fresh, filtered air, promoting a healthier living environment and enhancing overall hygiene by reducing the presence of airborne contaminants. Moreover, the system effectively curtails the formation of mold and fungus, contributing to the maintenance of a clean and sanitary atmosphere within the household.

In addition to its health benefits, the system offers significant energy-saving advantages. Through passive cooling, it alleviates the strain on traditional air conditioning units, resulting in reduced energy consumption and lower utility costs. Furthermore, by facilitating a quieter and pollution-free indoor environment, it enables occupants to enjoy a peaceful and tranquil living space without the disturbances of outdoor noise and air pollution.

While the Energy Recovery Ventilation machine serves as a cornerstone of the system, the ducting infrastructure is equally instrumental in its success. Blutherm has developed a manifold ducting system featuring semi-rigid antimicrobial flexible ducts with smooth linings, meticulously designed to seamlessly integrate with the machines and maximize operational efficiency.

The benefits of these ducts are manifold. Their 3-inch diameter allows for installation with minimal false ceiling margins, streamlining the implementation process. The manifold design effectively prevents cross-talk between rooms, ensuring privacy and comfort for occupants. Additionally, the antimicrobial smooth lining of the ducts promotes hygienic airflow, while their flexible nature enables versatile deployment in various configurations. Moreover, each duct is pre-engineered to carry a specific volume of air, simplifying calculations and ensuring precise implementation on-site.

The Helios KWL system from Germany has been successfully deployed, further attesting to the efficacy of the balanced ventilation with energy recovery solution. Equipped with Electronic Commutating motors, an integrated IoT module, and humidity sensors, the system operates autonomously, adjusting airflow based on indoor air quality, and enhancing convenience and efficiency for the client.

This luxury apartment designed by Homework Design, exemplifies a harmonious blend of architectural brilliance, interior elegance, and cutting-edge technology integration.

Discover how Short Throw Projectors and Ultra Short Throw Projectors are the perfect options for compact residences. Smart Home World gives you an overview on the latest range and how these projectors are redefining the way we enjoy entertainment and gaming.

In the face of escalating real estate prices, modern homes are embracing a trend towards compact living spaces. However, this shift doesn’t mean you have to compromising on the quality of entertainment. There are various sleek and advanced options available in this segment specifically suitable for compact spaces.

The surge in streaming services and the availability of quality content make having an entertainment space in a home essential for all age groups. Consequently, there has been a gradual shift in requirements—now, it’s not just larger homes, but even smaller homes that are opting for projectors. To cater to this demand, brands have introduced innovative technologies such as Short Throw Projectors and Ultra Short Throw Projectors. These technologies empower homeowners to transform even the coziest corners of their compact homes into immersive entertainment hubs.

Perfect Solution for Compact Spaces

As living spaces become more limited, the need for versatile and space-efficient solutions has never been more crucial. Short Throw Projectors come to the rescue by offering large-screen experiences without the demand for extensive room depth. By minimizing the throw distance required for projection, these projectors enable homeowners to enjoy cinematic visuals, gaming, and presentations without sacrificing precious square footage.

The compact design of Short Throw Projectors and Ultra Short Throw Projectors aligns perfectly with the modern aesthetic, contributing to a clean and uncluttered living space.

The latest new-age projectors bring the cinematic experience to your living room. They are designed to project large, high-quality images on screens or walls, providing an immersive viewing experience in compact spaces. With advancements in technology, modern home projectors offer features like high-resolution, vibrant colours, and compatibility with various media sources.

Among the many types available, Short Throw Projectors and Ultra-Short Throw Projectors stand out for their unique advantages. It is very important to understand the features of these two types of projectors:

Short Throw Projectors are characterized by their ability to project large images from a short distance. Unlike traditional projectors that may need more space. Short Throw Projectors can be placed close to the screen or wall, making them ideal for smaller rooms or spaces with limited throw distance. This design minimizes shadows and reduces the risk of being obstructed, enhancing the overall viewing experience.

Functionalities and Features

Basically, any projector that can show you a 100” image from less than 9ft is considered short-throw.  Some key advantages of short-throw projectors are they don’t require installation (i.e. being mounted to the ceiling) and only occupy a small amount of space where a TV would normally sit. This offers diversity and flexibility when it comes to finding a room or space for your projector. With a shorter distance between the screen, light doesn’t need to travel through as much medium also offering more consistent image quality.

In the past, short-throw projectors were characterised by coarse-grained images with pale contrast, but technology manufacturers are now creating projectors that offer great image quality at a short throw distance.

The Ultra Short Throw Projectors (UST) takes the concept a step further by allowing even closer placement to the screen or wall. Projector that can show you images from less than 3ft is considered an Ultra-Short Throw projector. With an ultra-short throw distance, these projectors can be positioned just inches away from the display surface. This not only eliminates shadows and obstructions but also provides a sleek and unobtrusive setup. Ultra-Short Throw Projectors are particularly popular for home theater setups and interactive applications.

Functionalities and Features

The best Ultra Short Throw Projectors can beam an ultra-large picture from an ultra-short distance. They are designed as an alternative to standard ‘long throw’ projectors, which must be positioned at the back of a room to generate a large image – usually on a separate projection screen mounted on the opposite wall. UST projectors also use a separate screen and some models are packaged with an ambient light rejecting (ALR) screen that uses a special material formulated for UST models. In a UST setup, the projector is positioned directly below the screen. The screen material filters out light coming from above, while reflecting light coming directly from the projector. This arrangement allows for UST projectors to deliver bright images even in a daylight environment or one with overhead lights.

Guiding the readers on the placement and the type of screens to select for projection, Fenil Mehta Founder, Sound Tight, White Noise Sound & Acoustic Designs explains, “Ultra Short Throw (UST) projectors have emerged as a compelling choice for creating expansive living room setups. The key consideration with UST projectors lies in selecting the right reflecting surface or screen. Optimal performance is achieved when paired with a quality ALR (Ambient Light Rejecting) or CLR (Ceiling Light Rejecting) screen that effectively rejects or absorbs ambient light. Setting up a UST projector can be a meticulous task, given that even a slight adjustment in projector position can result in a significant deviation of the image on the screen. Ensuring stability in the projector’s position becomes crucial, unless one is inclined to spend considerable time readjusting the screen after routine activities like dusting and cleaning. A Short Throw projector, boasting high brightness and superior resolution, shines when projecting onto a tab-tension or fixed screen, making it an ideal solution for living rooms or lounges where UST or long throw projectors may be less desirable. It’s worth noting that using regular roll-down screens or painted walls is discouraged, as these can lead to image warping on uneven surfaces and wavy screens when paired with Short Throw Projectors.”

Smart Home World has curated a diverse range of options, featuring advanced technologies such as DLP and 3LCD for superior picture display. With laser-based light engines and a dedicated 4K on-screen resolution, these models cater to various needs, whether it be for watching movies, sports, or gaming. Rest assured, you’ll find a model that suits your preferences.

BenQ

BenQ’s V5000i 4K RGB Laser TV UST Projector is a cutting-edge option that is sure to elevate your viewing experience with this state-of-the-art Ultra Short Throw (UST) projector, designed to redefine how you enjoy movies, gaming, and multimedia content in the comfort of your own space.

With 4K Clarity and RGB Laser Technology, this projector ensures vibrant and true-to-life colours bringing your content to life with stunning detail and accuracy. The V5000i’s Ultra Short Throw capability allows you to place the projector just inches away from the screen or wall, maximizing space efficiency and eliminating shadows for an immersive viewing experience. As the concept of surround sound was still nascent, our passion for creating the perfect sound system for ourselves soon became a shared fascination among our friends. Together, we embarked on a journey to build sound systems that mesmerized everyone who experienced them. With enthusiasm and dedication, we grew, attracting more like-minded individuals, and our journey took a decisive turn when we established Hyderabad’s first Home Cinema store with a dedicated demo room and an impressive LD and DVD library.

Over the years, our endeavors expanded, and we took on prestigious projects, leaving an indelible mark with the sound systems we designed for iconic landmarks like the Golconda and the Taramati Baradari. As our reputation grew, we ventured into various industries, leaving our expertise in corporate spaces, educational institutions, auditoriums, shopping malls, and control rooms.

Today, our focus lies in integration, installation, and automation processes, offering a comprehensive range of in-house services. We take immense pride in providing around 40 diverse products and services, ensuring our customers have a wide array of options to meet their unique requirements.

Being esteemed members of CEDIA, the industry standard in the professional audiovisual realm, is a testament to our commitment to excellence. With every project we undertake, we strive to redefine the boundaries of luxury and technology, crafting experiences that leave a lasting impact on all who encounter them.

As we continue to evolve and innovate, we are grateful for the unwavering support of our valued customers and partners. The future holds boundless possibilities, and we eagerly look forward to creating more unforgettable experiences with you by our side.

Can you share with our professional readers some of the revolutionary Home Theatres you have worked on, which have been a turning point in your career in terms of experimenting with new Sound Technology and High-end Automation, or introducing innovative concepts?

The essence of our journey lies in the relentless pursuit of visionary projects across diverse industries. From awe-inspiring Light and Sound shows to transforming corporate spaces and crafting mesmerizing home theaters, each endeavor has propelled us beyond limits.

One such groundbreaking project that pushed our boundaries was the world’s first Trinnov rack with 5x amplitude for a single theater. For this technological marvel, we incorporated an astounding 10 kW of amplification, powering a remarkable array of 37 speakers. This challenged both technical and design-related standards and became a trendsetter. Over the years, we enriched our knowledge and delivered exclusive and innovative sound systems for various spaces.

An unforgettable turning point came when a client approached us with a 24-channel home cinema concept, inspired by an Italian showroom. Instead of simply assisting the Italian integrator in India, we took a bold stand. MSR’s unwavering commitment to excellence drove us to decline the project, stating our principle of installing only projects designed and supplied by us. We were determined to deliver a system that surpassed the client’s Italian inspiration.

This pursuit of excellence led us to collaborate with the talented Sawan Nichani of MacBee. Together, we set out to create a groundbreaking 32-channel Home Cinema with 37 speakers, a feat that was unprecedented at that time. This revolutionary project not only expanded our creative possibilities but also showcased our dedication to turning visionary concepts into reality.

We take immense pride in this exceptional project that not only met but exceeded the client’s vision. This achievement has become a symbol of MSR’s commitment to redefining the boundaries of sound system design and installation.

As we continue to embrace challenges and seek new opportunities, our passion for innovation remains unwavering. Each project, big or small, continues to inspire us to go the extra mile, leaving an incredible mark on the luxury home automation and home cinema industry.

What are your views on the importance of Lighting Design in a home cinema?

Lighting design holds immense significance in both home cinemas and residential spaces, as it has the power to transform the entire ambiance of a room. With a simple touch of a button, you can instantly infuse energy into the entire house or craft a captivating atmosphere for a specific area.

In the realm of home cinemas, lighting takes on a crucial role, setting the stage for an immersive movie-watching experience. As the lights dim with the commencement of the film, a warm and nostalgic feeling washes over you, reminiscent of the enchanting ambiance of a traditional theatrical setting.

Beyond its role in creating a cinematic atmosphere, lighting serves multiple purposes. It enhances visual comfort, ensuring a pleasant viewing experience for extended periods. Moreover, it contributes to the overall aesthetics of the space, elevating the interior design and making it visually appealing.

In the comfort of your own home, lighting becomes a key ingredient in curating an enjoyable cinematic journey. It complements the audio-visual elements, allowing you to indulge in a truly captivating movie-watching experience.

What is the biggest innovation in the home automation segment? How has it revolutionised the entire industry?

The biggest innovation in the Home Automation industry is that of Control Automation. It has made Automation very easy to use for any age group by creating a very user-friendly GUI (Graphic User Interface). It has also made the integrator’s job very easy by reducing the programming time drastically. We’ve always tried to break the mould and come up with solutions that are new, modern, and unique. As far as automation goes, there was a time when it was in the early stages when it came to India, and we did the integration of heating of the pool, integration of the fireplace, integration of the bollards, and integration of the lift. If suppose a car is detected 100 metres from the house, the lift overrides all the functions, comes down, opens, and stays for the owner. The bollards go down after informing security. So, the level of automation that we achieved was futuristic in those times. The automation segment today is integrating everything that is connected in a house, including your lighting, AC, curtains, security, Audio/Video and access control. Earlier, each of them was handled individually. Today, with the constant, cutting-edge evolution of automation, you can integrate every technology in the house and use it seamlessly. For instance, in a home cinema with a click of a button, you can close the curtains and dim the lights while the projector gets warmed up for viewing and all your electronics are ready for a nice movie experience. All you have to do is rev up the volume to your desired level.

What are some of the most challenging Smart residential projects you have worked on where there was scope for adopting the latest Smart Home technology?

Over the years, we have had multiple residential projects, and the requirements expected to match the vision were quite challenging; however, we managed to exceed the expectations, and one such residential project we designed was for an entire house in 2008. We had to make audio and video installations throughout the house. We had different kinds of installations made. Whether it was designing and creating glass speakers for the Pooja room, custom speakers with digital art for the master bedroom as well as the daughter’s room, or creating rock speakers for the terrace, we had to come up with the designs and plans for the house. For the home theatre, we had to fit In- wall digital speakers. While the requirements then were new, they were certainly challenging as well as fascinating at the same time.

How do you foresee the home cinema industry 5 years down the line?

I think we’ve barely reached the tip of the iceberg. As infrastructure keeps developing, so will the houses and spaces designed for it. Home cinema has almost become skeletal, like the structure of a house. Every new house has a home theatre designed for it. There is huge scope for home cinema, especially in India. There’ll be far more sophisticated and advanced smart home integrations as well as audio technologies in the future. The availability of good content to stream or watch is abundant as compared to 20 years ago. With an increase in content to watch, visual and spatial audio can reach undiscovered heights. For instance, a few years ago, we were working on a home project, and our briefing was to create a ‘maximum result with a minimalist look’. A few years down the line, we’re not sure what’s in store for us, but we’re definitely open to trying the best of what technology has to offer.

IoT and AI automation systems as the future of this segment? Can you share your views on the same?

While the pace at which IoT and AI automation are coming into our lives can be a little unexpected and overwhelming, we need to accept that soon they will become a part of all of our lives. With respect to MSR, our vision is to incorporate all the services and technologies that are going to foster the best solutions for our future projects, not just in Hyderabad but across India.

What is your future vision for your Company?

Essentially, what we at MSR strive for every day is to create rooms that become one-stop shops for all forms of entertainment. We always intend to make sound rooms where you can enjoy unrestrained music without worrying about disturbing others. In the coming years, we don’t just want to expand our creativity and plausibility in redefining sound rooms; we also want to leave an immersive and unparalleled experience for our clients. We’ll constantly keep evolving and redefining acoustics, personalization, sustainability, and advanced multi-purpose rooms to levels unheard of.

Samsung and LG announced at IFA 2023 that their smart home apps will soon be able to control each other’s appliances and TVs. This collaboration is part of the Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA), an industry coalition founded in late 2021, with Samsung as one of its founding members.

By the end of 2024, LG’s ThinQ app will notify you if you leave the door of your Samsung Family Hub smart fridge open, and Samsung’s SmartThings app will be able to schedule a delicate wash on your LG washing machine. This cross-brand functionality will also extend to controlling each company’s TVs with competitors’ apps. The HCA aims to provide cross-brand connectivity specifically for large appliances, using cloud-based communication to allow Wi-Fi-connected appliances to communicate with each other.

This cloud-based implementation is one of the reasons why HCA decided not to join CSA and Matter from the start, even though the two organizations share a common goal. Samsung notes that while they support the new open smart home standard Matter, the company focuses on ensuring that the appliances already in people’s homes can connect to the smart home and not require new hardware.

Therefore, HCA’s mission is to simplify smart home management by allowing users to control all available home appliances from different brands with a single app. This includes washers, dryers, refrigerators, ovens, robot vacuums, TVs, and HVAC systems. However, users will still have to use the manufacturer’s app for initial setup. Samsung and LG plan to launch this feature in the fourth quarter in eight countries: Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Turkey.

One of the key benefits of such interoperability will be energy savings. If all appliances can transmit data to a single app, it will be easier to monitor energy consumption and implement energy-saving features. Energy management is planned in version 2.0 of the HCA specification, which is due in 2024 and should include chargers for electric vehicles. Initially, only LG, Samsung, and Vestel are implementing this compatibility, but it is planned to gradually expand it to other types of electrical appliances.

In addition, this interoperability is limited to appliance manufacturer apps such as SmartThings and ThinQ and will not be available on other smart home platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.

Samsung Electronics announced that it is working with fellow members of the HCA, including LG Electronics and Vestel, to provide consumers with the ability to control third-party smart appliances using the App of their choice — the first collaboration of its kind in the industry. Based on the HCA’s Interface Specification 1.0, this move will enable Cloud-to-Cloud (C2C) interoperability between certain home appliances & HVAC systems and pave the way for increased consumer benefits like whole home energy savings. Starting in Q4 2023, the functionality will first be available in eight countries including Korea and the U.S., with expansion to other regions at a later date.

Samsung Electronics is a founding member and holds the chair position of the board of the HCA, an organization dedicated to the development and promotion of compatibility and energy management across home appliances, HVAC3 systems and TVs within the connected home ecosystem. The alliance has recently announced that its members will begin implementing Interface Specification 1.0.

“It is great to see HCA bring its first example of interoperability to market with global leaders in the appliance, HVAC and TV industries. It is a testament to the commitment of large device manufacturers to better serve our consumers in their homes,” said Chanwoo Park, Executive Vice President and Head of the Service Biz Group, Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “By enabling consumers to control multiple brands of appliances and HVAC products through apps such as SmartThings, we expect the smart home market to achieve new levels of scale. Global leaders will be able to fuel enhanced digital services that provide consumers with new benefits, and Samsung is steadfast in its commitment to HCA and its vision.”

The collaboration provides a framework for C2C cross-control and will establish a strong foundation for home connectivity to provide meaningful benefits for consumers, starting with legacy device integration and expanding into energy savings in the near future. Since the C2C connectivity does not require a new hub or updates to appliances, it will be particularly beneficial for users’ existing home appliances.

Thanks to this development, users can start controlling their smart appliances, regardless of the manufacturer through their existing appliance and HVAC apps such as the SmartThings app, the one-stop app that lets them manage their homes and smart devices with ease, LG’s ThinQ and Vestel’s VeeZy. Consumers simply need to update their mobile app of choice to enable management of the smart appliances in their homes.4

This initiative marks the first time that Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will support control of their respective devices using each other’s apps — a step that enhances consumers’ ease of use and shows potential for future cross-collaboration. Furthermore, along with Vestel, Samsung was the first key player in the industry to implement HCA integration. After a focus on supporting key features that consumers use most often, Interface Specification 2.0, which is expected in 2024, is set to add energy management functions and include additional product lines, such as electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

“HCA member companies are taking a thoughtful approach towards interoperability of everyday essential products already in our homes,” said Yoon Ho Choi, Home Connectivity Alliance President. “I look forward to seeing our member companies adopting the specification starting this year and HCA-enabled technology being available to more consumers in the near future. The goal is to make the appliances and HVAC systems we live with, smarter, more accessible and energy efficient throughout their life by connecting them to energy management and other services.”

LG Electronics (LG) unveiled the ThinQ UP 2.0, a smart home innovation that transforms home appliances into ultra-convenient and ultra-connected lifestyle solutions. ThinQ UP 2.0 highlights the expansion of LG’s successful home appliance business into non-hardware areas, including subscription services, and confirms the company’s leadership in promoting the ‘servitization’ of home appliances.

Aligned with its new Smart Home Solution strategy and ‘Zero Labor Home Makes Quality Time‘ customer experience vision, LG will introduce a wide range of services designed to fulfill customers’ needs and deliver greater freedom and ease in the home.

LG ThinQ UP 2.0 sets a new benchmark for personalization, tailoring product performance and service options to users’ preferences throughout the entire customer journey. Unlike traditional products with fixed features and specifications, appliances compatible with ThinQ UP continuously update their essential functions and offer features suited to each individual user. A significant advancement over existing ThinQ UP appliances, ThinQ UP 2.0 products work intelligently to reduce the time and hassle of household chores, adding new services with flexible subscription options while also recommending additional services to make daily life smoother.

Personalization Option

The home appliance personalization process begins even before the customer receives their products. For example, customers who purchase a ThinQ UP 2.0 washing machine will be asked to participate in a three-step ‘Life Pattern Analysis’ survey, conducted through the LG ThinQ App. LG analyzes the survey results and applies optimised washing cycles matched to the customer’s preferences, ensuring a tailor-made user experience right from the start. What’s more, customers have the flexibility to adjust the order of cycles installed on their machines and can save their personal settings on the App.

Similarly customizable, LG’s latest InstaView bottom freezer provides multiple options for maintaining the freshness of stored ingredients. Through the ThinQ App, users can apply precise temperature settings based on the types of food they have inside the fridge, and change the colour of the LED lighting integrated into the InstaView door’s glass panel. On top of that, they can leave messages and reminders for family members or housemates on the bottom freezer’s LCD display.

Coming first to ThinQ UP 2.0 washers and dryers is an LG-developed on-device chip – called the DQ-C chip – and a brand-new operating system. The DQ-C chip has ample memory to support the addition of different types of content, enabling users to enjoy an array of tailored features and functions that can be easily managed via the appliances’ touch displays, or the ThinQ app.

Offering a Wide Range of Home Solutions

Leading the ‘servitization’ of home appliances, LG’s new solution delivers personalized products and customized services that fit in with and enhance customers’ lifestyles. When buying an appliance from the ThinQ UP 2.0 lineup, customers can choose from a range of services that can reduce the burden of household chores and management. These include subscriptions and smart home services that aid and augment the performance of LG’s products, as well as laundry services for specialized clothing care and time-saving automated services for re-ordering detergent and fresh foods.

Thanks to the diverse capabilities of ThinQ UP 2.0, LG’s new washing machines, for instance, become all-in-one solutions that support users’ lifestyles; giving them one-stop access to various convenient services, from dry-cleaning to clothing storage and beyond.

Transitioning from a Product-Centric to a Smart Life Solutions Business

LG’s appliance subscription service offers customers the freedom to sign up for a period ranging from three to six years in length, letting them choose the best option for their own individual circumstances. During the subscription period, the company provides monthly reports through the LG ThinQ App, suggesting personalized product recommendations based on the customer’s usage patterns and preferences.

“LG ThinQ UP 2.0 marks the beginning of our journey towards a more service-based business model,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, President of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company.” A major player in the global home appliance market, LG is committed to leading the era of the ‘Home as a Service’ (HaaS) and will continue to present innovative solutions that enhance customers’ lives better.”

LG Plans Huge Investment for R & D and Increase Sales https://www.smarthomeworld.in/lg-plans-huge-investment-for-r-d-and-increase-sales/ Thu, 20 Jul 2023 05:39:37 +0000 https://www.smarthomeworld.in/?p=8203 LG Electronics plans to spend $39.5 billion (50 trillion won) in R&D, facility and strategic investment as it aims to reach $79 billion (100 trillion won) in sales by 2030, up from $51.4 billion (65 trillion won) in 2022.  The new strategy will transform its home appliance and electronics goods maker into a platform-based tech company. LG Electronics plans to spend $39.5 billion (50 trillion won) in R&D, facility and strategic investment as it aims to reach $79 billion (100 trillion won) in sales by 2030, up from $51.4 billion (65 trillion won) in 2022.

The new strategy will transform its home appliance and electronics goods maker into a platform-based tech company. LG will bolster service platforms on its home appliances like TV products and white goods, reinforce business-to-business (B2B) units by leveraging its experience in the B2C market and accelerate new growth businesses such as electric vehicle (EV) charging and digital healthcare.

The company’s announcement comes roughly two years after LG closed its loss-making mobile phone business globally in 2021 to focus on its growth areas such as smart homes, connected devices, the Internet of Things (IoT), B2B solutions, EV components, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and platforms.

“LG will continue to pursue its bold vision to transform and lead forward as a smart life solutions company that connects and expands on customers’ spaces and experiences, rather than its current position as the best home appliance brand,” William Cho, CEO of LG Electronics, said in a statement. “We will establish a brand-new LG by reinventing the way we work and communicate while progressing towards this goal.”

According to Cho in his speech in Seoul, the company, which annually sells about 100 million hardware products, not only manufactures and sells TV devices but also wants to offer webOS as a service platform provider. For example, LG smart TV with webOS offers customized advertising and TV and entertainment content from over0 broadcasting channels and 2,500 partners globally, including on-demand streaming platforms.

“We are supplying our webOS to various TV manufacturers and planning to actively install webOS in our digital signage and vehicle displays to expand the media platforms,” Cho said.

LG is also considering the development of a home energy platform, providing a solution that integrates HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), ESS (energy storage system) and EV charger.

As for the digital healthcare business, LG will work with its internal startup incubator LG Nova in North America. The company CEO is establishing a venture capital unit to back startups, the company CEO said.

LG has been wading into emerging sectors through acquisitions, including ZKW, an Austria-based automotive lighting and headlight system provider; Alphonso, the US adtech firm; Cybellum, an automotive cybersecurity startup; and AppleMango, a South Korean electric vehicle battery charge developer. LG began production of EV chargers in Seoul last month and changed AppleMango’s name to HiEV Charger.

The company set up an EV company called Vehicle Component Solutions (VS) Company in 2013, which develops infotainment, telematics and Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

LG Electronics said last week it expects to post 19.9 trillion won ($15.2 billion) for the April-June quarter, the highest revenue in the company’s history. The company will release its full earnings report by the end of July.
