Havells India Ltd. has been consistently developing new products to cater to the growing smart home market. As the market is showing good growth trends in the wireless range, Havells has launched its new range of Signia Smart modular Wi-Fi switches in a very attractive new Grey Colour. These Smart Switches are mated to the Havells Signia platform and offer a full suite of features ranging from switching, dimming, curtain control, Fan/AC, smart bell and scene controls.

Another recent launch is the new Monoblock solution I Sense, this is a very cost-efficient solution that offers premium looks with all automation features. This solution offers all automation features and is based on the ZigBee platform to offer superior connectivity and is well-suited for large apartments and villas. Both these solutions are highly adaptable and scalable and can be used both in new constructions and retrofit jobs.

 Your product line spans Switches, Automation, and Video Door Phones. Have there been recent technological advancements integrated into these categories, and if so, could you provide details on these innovations?

Technology improvement in smart products and solutions is an ongoing process and is constantly changing. Some of the recent advancements have been the integration of Wi Fi features in our video door phones, these features enable a user to be able to remotely communicate with visitors at their home. The homeowner can remotely monitor the outside area of his home and also give remote access (if integrated with an electric lock). Our Wi-Fi video door phone is fully integrated with our I sense automation solution.

The Signia Smart Bell push is another new upgrade that converts a normal doorbell into a smart doorbell by offering features such as Bell ringing notifications and DND, the unique 4 Scene controller in the Signia Smart range is a multi-use product that offers easy scene control features, features such as All On /Off & Two way switching.

Smart Home Technology is perceived as complex by users. How does Crabtree prioritize user-friendliness in product design, and are there specific features aimed at enhancing ease of use across your product line?

Our wireless automation solutions are designed to offer a DIY-level simplicity, these solutions offer multiple ways of controls that suit the needs of every generation of family as the solutions can be controlled via touch like a simple switch, via mobile app, via voice assistants and also via Remote controls (available in some solutions)

Does Crabtree’s product line seamlessly integrate with other smart home devices, ensuring compatibility with various setups? Please elaborate on the integration capabilities.

Havells India Ltd is a multiproduct organisation with many consumer-facing product categories, we are building one of the largest ecosystem of smart products on the state-of-the-art Havells Sync platform which offers deep integration of a range of smart appliances ranging from water heaters, air conditioners, smart TVs, smart appliances, smart fans etc. Havells sync platform has further been certified to work with Samsung Things.

With a diverse range of offerings, could you guide professionals on which Crabtree products are suitable for Residential, Commercial, Hospitality, and other segments?

Havells Buspro and KNX solutions are top-of-the-line wired automation solutions which are highly suitable for new structures. These solutions work on Cat 5/KNX wiring and can be adapted for use in both residential and commercial buildings. These are full automation suites that offer extensive integration and automation possibilities. The wireless solutions can be adapted at any stage of construction without the need for any rewiring or structural changes. These premium solutions offer a wide variety of features with high scalability and premium aesthetics and different product solutions available in different price brackets.

Crabtree’s Buspro is a KNX-based solution. Could you explain its advantages and how it stands out in the market?

Crabtree Buspro solutions are offered on two distinct platforms, Buspro is a proprietary wired technology offering a full suite of wired automation products, Buspro KNX is an open standard platform that allows wide integration possibilities and offers an extensive range of products.

Between the two platforms Crabtree wired automation offers a very wide range of dimmers available in different flavours for every type of dimming technology be it phase cut, trailing/leading edge, DALI or Analogue, the range offers extensive integration with a large number of infrastructure devices like actuators, controllers, wall panels and easy integration with most leading brands of third-party automation controllers

IoT is transforming industries. How does Crabtree contribute to this transformation, especially in smart homes and connected devices?

Crabtree IoT devices offer a range of features that allow for running the connected lights/appliances on schedules, timers and integration into various scenes and with concepts like Day light harvesting and Sensors, Havells Crabtree automation promotes high sustainability with energy savings for residences and commercial building.

Havells Crabtree offers one of the widest retrofit solutions in the industry. There is a solution for every need available at different price points. The retrofit solutions are offered in three distinct types:

∙        Havells Crabtree Signia Smart Solutions – Based on the extensive Signia modular architecture these are modular switches that offer full features of automation, multiple ways of controls and a range of premium faceplates

Samsung Electronics announced that it is working with fellow members of the HCA, including LG Electronics and Vestel, to provide consumers with the ability to control third-party smart appliances using the App of their choice — the first collaboration of its kind in the industry. Based on the HCA’s Interface Specification 1.0, this move will enable Cloud-to-Cloud (C2C) interoperability between certain home appliances & HVAC systems and pave the way for increased consumer benefits like whole home energy savings. Starting in Q4 2023, the functionality will first be available in eight countries including Korea and the U.S., with expansion to other regions at a later date.

Samsung Electronics is a founding member and holds the chair position of the board of the HCA, an organization dedicated to the development and promotion of compatibility and energy management across home appliances, HVAC³ systems and TVs within the connected home ecosystem. The alliance has recently announced that its members will begin implementing Interface Specification 1.0.

“It is great to see HCA bring its first example of interoperability to market with global leaders in the appliance, HVAC and TV industries. It is a testament to the commitment of large device manufacturers to better serve our consumers in their homes,” said Chanwoo Park, Executive Vice President and Head of the Service Biz Group, Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “By enabling consumers to control multiple brands of appliances and HVAC products through apps such as SmartThings, we expect the smart home market to achieve new levels of scale. Global leaders will be able to fuel enhanced digital services that provide consumers with new benefits, and Samsung is steadfast in its commitment to HCA and its vision.”

The collaboration provides a framework for C2C cross-control and will establish a strong foundation for home connectivity to provide meaningful benefits for consumers, starting with legacy device integration and expanding into energy savings in the near future. Since the C2C connectivity does not require a new hub or updates to appliances, it will be particularly beneficial for users’ existing home appliances.

Thanks to this development, users can start controlling their smart appliances, regardless of the manufacturer through their existing appliance and HVAC apps such as the SmartThings app, the one-stop app that lets them manage their homes and smart devices with ease, LG’s ThinQ and Vestel’s VeeZy. Consumers simply need to update their mobile app of choice to enable management of the smart appliances in their homes.⁴

This initiative marks the first time that Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will support control of their respective devices using each other’s apps — a step that enhances consumers’ ease of use and shows potential for future cross-collaboration. Furthermore, along with Vestel, Samsung was the first key player in the industry to implement HCA integration. After a focus on supporting key features that consumers use most often, Interface Specification 2.0, which is expected in 2024, is set to add energy management functions and include additional product lines, such as electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

LG Electronics (LG), a board member of the Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA), showcased a seamless smart home experience at CES 2023. Along with other HCA member companies. LG demonstrated the interoperability enabled under the new HCA Specification 1.0, whereby smart home solutions from different brands work together seamlessly to deliver true connected convenience in the home.

LG exhibited their latest smart home appliances – including the MoodUP refrigerator, WashTower laundry solution, ARTCOOL Gallery air conditioner and Puri with Care AeroTower – together with those from other alliance members.  Their concept of “Any App to any device” presents users with the ability to manage each brand’s products via each brand’s smart control App, such as LG’s intuitive ThinQ App. This new level of interoperability is currently supported by HCA member companies including LG.

Utilizing existing industry standards to define Cloud-to-Cloud (C2C) interoperability guidelines, the new HCA Specification 1.0 has been established to ensure that home appliances, TVs and HVAC systems can interoperate seamlessly with one another, irrespective of brand. In addition, to newly-launched models consumers can continue using the smart home appliances and HVAC solutions, customers have already owned at home and are covered by HCA Specification 1.0, without having to install any major firmware updates.

Furthermore, HCA Specification 1.0 will help member companies to make the smart home more sustainable in the future, leveraging data collected from across alliance members’ appliances to gain insight into usage and improve energy management.

Panasonic has announced the expansion of its IoT and AI-enabled Connected Living platform – Miraie. The home appliances major has also launched a connected refrigerator, washing machine, WiFi fan, ROMA Smart digital switches and smart WiFi controller plugs and switches in India. These new devices join the first generation of Miraie connected products including connected air conditioners, smart door phones, zigbee plugs and switches that were introduced last year.

The new range of Miraie appliances will be available across Panasonic brand stores, large format retail outlets and online platforms. Panasonic’s Connected Refrigerator comes with a remote temperature control feature which allows users to control the refrigerator and freezer temperatures remotely using the Miraie app. It also comes with a mode selection feature that allows users to select child lock and different refrigerator modes like fast freezing among others. In addition, users can also get information on the status of the refrigerator door, freezer door, ambient temperature and power supply on their smartphones.

Connected Washing Machine is capable of displaying information on the current wash cycle, time remaining and power supply using the mobile app. Users can also create and set customised wash programs as favourites for quick selection. The Wash Wizard feature provides users with recommendations on the best wash quality based on the type of clothes and level of soiled clothes. Additionally, users can get reminders with instructions for periodic cleaning of washing machine parts such as drain filter, drum, and lint filter.

Panasonic has also launched IoT-enabled WiFi fans. It comes with an AI-mode that manages AC and fans together in the room by optimizing power consumption and enhancing comfort. It also features a speed control feature that can modify speed and mode through the Miraie app.

The company has also launched ROMA Smart digital lights and blinds with the mood-setting feature. Users can adjust the room brightness as per their needs and control blinds through the Miraie app.

Another important product that Panasonic has unveiled is the Smart WiFi Controller switch and plug. These devices come with a feature that enables users to get alerts on a smartphone from motion detection. Users can also rename switches as per the appliances attached.
