Seamlessly blending the allure of plush design with the convenience and innovation of smart technology every corner of their home is a testament to their vision of opulence, where sumptuous fabrics, exquisite materials, and artistic details coexist harmoniously with cutting-edge automation and intelligent systems. “It’s a fusion where timeless elegance meets the future, where comfort is elevated by the touch of a button, and where our passion for design and technology intertwine to redefine modern living,” says Rishabh Kapoor, Director and Principal Designer of Design Deconstruct.

This luxurious farmhouse located in Delhi’s Chattarpur Farms is spread over an area 2,150 sq. meters built-up area spread over five levels with six bedrooms, six bathrooms and five powder rooms for a family of four. The home boasts flamboyant design elements such as a floating crystal art piece, ceiling-hung paintings, and floor-to-ceiling chandeliers, creating a larger-than-life ambiance and seamless smart technology.

Design Highlight

Bold architectural features like expansive double-height decks with balconies and a towering double-height ceiling on the second floor give the house its extravagant character. Designed by Monica Chadha, Director and Principal Designer of Design Deconstruct, the space balances opulence with practicality, emphasizing clean aesthetics and ease of maintenance.

The layout caters to both formal and informal guest entertaining while ensuring clear separation between public and private areas for privacy and efficient housekeeping. The upper ground level features a serene Buddha statue, a chic urban-industrial lounge, a study, and a pantry.

On the first floor, the formal drawing room boasts distinct seating clusters and striking artwork. The adjacent dining room stands out with a remarkable crystal art piece suspended from the ceiling over a unique onyx dining table. The space is adorned with exquisite furniture and stunning chandeliers, adding an exclusive touch.

The residential quarters span the second and third floors, housing spacious master bedrooms with walk-in wardrobes and en suite bathrooms. A double-height family lounge and a beautifully done-up puja room highlight the second floor. The third floor holds additional bedrooms, maintaining a connection with the second-floor lounge.

The lower ground floor is a hub of recreation and entertainment, featuring an indoor swimming pool, a versatile party hall, a well-equipped gym, and a 10-seater home theater with automated recliners.

Custom-made furniture by Design Deconstruct lends a unique touch to each space, while statuario marble staircases with rose gold railings exude elegance. This carefully crafted design allows for a distinctive and appealing atmosphere throughout the farmhouse.

Smart Automation Products Integrated

The designer duo trusted the job to Technexy Home Automation to seamlessly integrate technology into their plush home. In the living and dining area, the designers have seamlessly integrated advanced smart lighting control systems, featuring renowned brands like CONTROL4 and ABB. These systems provided effortless adjustments to the ambiance and mood at the mere touch of a button. Complementing this, motorized curtains and blinds were incorporated for a harmonious blend of natural light and privacy control.

Elevating the home theatre experience, cutting-edge automation technology took the spotlight. The theatre boasted automated recliners, paired with top-tier sound systems, creating an unparalleled cinematic immersion. Bedrooms were not left untouched by the wave of smart home automation. This enabled personalized management of lighting, temperature, and entertainment devices, using brands like Yale Lock, Hikvision, and Peplink for networking.

From HVAC controls to security and surveillance, the entire spectrum was unified under a singular system. This breakthrough allowed remote access via smartphones or tablets, adding convenience and peace of mind.

Reflecting on their experience, “The journey of curating this luxury farmhouse at Chattarpur Farms was truly exceptional for Design Deconstruct. Marrying opulent design elements with functionality, we crafted a visually striking space that harmonized seamlessly with the family’s lifestyle. The fusion of luxury and minimalism ensured an inviting environment that was both aesthetically pleasing and easy to maintain.” adds Monica Chadha, Director and Principal Designers of Design Deconstruct.

Incorporating standout design features such as the suspended crystal art piece and majestic chandeliers, we infused exclusivity into the decor. With meticulous planning and unwavering attention to detail, each floor gained its distinct character, culminating in an elegant and cohesive haven for the family.

Encouraging the budding professionals to opt for Smart Automation Monica says, “Our advice is to embrace the power of Smart Automation, as it can revolutionize the functionality and comfort of any space. IEEE, the group behind the Wi-Fi standards, formed the Light Communications 802.11bb Task Group in 2018, chaired by pureLiFi and supported by Fraunhofer HHI, two entities that have been at the forefront of LiFi development efforts. LiFi, which stands for ‘Light Fidelity,’ is a wireless technology that uses light rather than radio frequencies to transmit data.

Some of the biggest industry players in semiconductors and mobile phones are interested in LiFi, and standardization at IEEE is a critical step to enable interoperability between multiple vendors, according to pureLiFi VP of Standardization Nikola Serafimovski, who chaired the 802.1bb Task Group.

The IEEE 802.11bb standard defines the physical layer specifications and system architectures for wireless communication using light waves. Ratification of the standard concluded in June 2023.

Integration with Wi-Fi pureLiFi already has developed the world’s first standards-compliant devices including the recently released Light Antenna ONE, which is analogous to the antenna chain in RF systems such as Wi-Fi. According to pureLiFi, Light Antenna ONE can be integrated with existing Wi-Fi chipsets that are currently shipping by the billions.

“pureLiFi is delighted to see the release of the IEEE 802.11bb standard,” said pureLiFi CEO Alistair Banham in a statement. “This is a significant moment for the LiFi industry, as it provides a clear framework for the deployment of LiFi technology on a global scale.”

When pureLiFi secured more than $10 million from the Scottish National Bank last year, Banham said the technology was introduced to the world from Scotland and it’s important to grow the ecosystem from there.

PureLiFi’s chief scientific officer, Professor Harald Hass of the University of Edinburgh, has been dubbed the “father of LiFi.” He introduced LiFi to the world on a TED stage in 2011, where he demonstrated light fidelity for the first time.

Dominic Schulz, lead of LiFi development at Fraunhofer HHI, said LiFi offers high-speed mobile connectivity in areas with limited RF, like fixed wireless access, classrooms, medical and industrial scenarios, complementing or serving as an alternative to Wi-Fi and 5G.

“With IEEE Std 802.11bb, LiFi has a first solution addressing mass-market requirements, such as low cost, low energy and high volumes. Industry can fully reuse WiFi protocols over the light medium. This will bring traffic offloading, security and navigation capabilities of WiFi to the next level,” Schulz said in a statement.

Ar. Manish Kumat has designed a Smart Home for a young couple in Indore that brings added comfort and convenience through smart automation to the homeowners.

Ar. Manish Kumat Design Cell headed by Manish Kumat has the extraordinary talent of seamlessly integrating nature as a part of interior spaces. The award-winning architect has designed some of the landmark projects over the years. Manish has recently designed a project in Indore for a young couple, where he has seamlessly integrated Nature, Design and Smart Automation which has not just provided ease of convenience but also provided foolproof security and energy efficiency which is the need of the hour.

This young couple wanted their four-bedroom apartment spread over an area of 1,890 sq ft to be converted into a spacious three-bedroom apartment with contemporary interiors and smart home technology. Adhering to the brief Ar. Manish broke a few walls to create a spacious space such as a large master bedroom with a lounge area and a walk-in closet space. In addition, Manish also created sleek, easy-to-maintain interiors, so he opted for furniture and fittings with straight lines and materials that are easy to clean.

Explaining his design approach and use of Smart Automation, Manish said, “I focused on providing the client with amenities to be functional and remotely controlled to offer them security, convenience, and energy saving. I had extensive discussions with them to understand their requirements. They wanted home automation from entrance access to the control of lighting, fans, air-conditioning, television, and curtains. Initially, we were a bit conservative in our approach toward smart technology due to fluctuations in voltage and unpredictable electricity supplies. However, this scenario has changed in the past few years as electricity supply has improved. Another point is that smart home automation is easier for the tech-savvy who easily understand how to control devices by an App on their phone or a networked device.” He further adds, “Though personally, I had not previously worked on smart home technology, we did thorough market research and went ahead and designed their home. We incorporated smart technology in different aspects of their home and living in a way that was inconspicuous while keeping to our design ethos of neat spaces with accent elements.”

After extensive research of the brands available in the market, the architect decided on Lutron for the lighting control system. For the lighting fixtures, they opted for Plus Light Tech which has a huge range of good quality fixtures and a good warranty as well. “The combination of Lutron and Plus Light Tech turned out to be amazing. After a thorough study of how smart lighting technology was to be incorporated into the home, each light had a separate wiring system as it went to the Lutron server. This had to be worked out in detail. We used a DALI driver that has a single interface for all light fixtures and controllers. This driver functions well. It helps to dim and tune the colour temperature of the lights. Thus, in one single light, the client gets a choice of temperature possibilities that makes it efficient and economical. For the entrance door, we opted for Yale digital door lock that offers access by a key as well as keyless (via number and biometrics).”

Advantages of Smart Automation

“As the client is a young couple and technology savvy, they found it easy to operate the automated systems. They are thus able to work with many amenities as per their preferences. For the lighting, they can create an ambiance in the interiors by opting for a particular tone and brightness of light such as soft in the evenings or in the living room and bright in the kitchen area. For controlling the sound of the television, we provided a sound bar that has a discreet speaker system that creates an effect close to that of a home theatre. A sound bar is space efficient and sound-effective.

Advice to Budding Professionals

“Clients are more tech-savvy today than in previous years. So, I would suggest that budding professionals should study products in the market, meet vendors and educate themselves about products and systems. Firstly, one must study the dynamics of the location of the site in terms of the availability of a regular supply of electricity and products if a backup is required. I feel it is better to go in for a high-quality product with a good warranty of several years so there is a good performance. A backup should be planned in case any system does not function, and this backup should be available at the earliest so the inconvenience caused to the client is minimized. All the systems should be explained thoroughly and demonstrated to the client before the project is handed over to the client.”

Overall, the architect has successfully combined his design philosophy and Smart Home Automation and delivered the projects within a stipulated time period to his clients.
