Snap One has introduced Luma Insights, a powerful new AI-based surveillance solution for Control4 customers that leverages the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance Luma Cameras as well as the Control4 Chime inside a customer’s Control4 System.

The Luma Bridge device comes bundled with a 3-year subscription to the Luma Insights service, which allows Partners to integrate powerful new AI and machine learning features that far exceed the capabilities of their IP cameras and NVRs alone. The Insights service is compatible at launch with Luma x10 and x20 IP cameras as well as the Control4 Chime Video Doorbell, and is integrator-friendly, requiring very minimal setup.

“Artificial Intelligence software is creating new opportunities and capabilities across a broad range of devices, including security and surveillance where it can enhance detection of security events and provide greater peace of mind for users and Partners alike,” said Derek Webb, Snap One Surveillance Product Manager. “Our focus here is on enhancing the Control4 experience by delivering new highly-anticipated features including surveillance-based playback, and automatic and dynamic notifications all inside of Control4 using the AI of Luma Insights. Our longer-term goal is to continue making it easy for partners to update existing systems without needing to engage in costly and intrusive system overhauls.”

Luma Insights enables 7-days of cloud-storage for snapshots and video clips of surveillance-triggered events which customers can access locally through their Control4 Touchscreens and remotely via Control4 App for iOS or Android. These ‘triggered events’ automatically generate a link and an image of the event, which are both added to a notification and pushed to the owner’s mobile device. Tapping the notification will link the customer deep into the Control4 app, either taking them right to a live feed if the event is ongoing or to immediate playback of the event with options to view more events, go to live view, or immediately share the event. This gives property owners real-time ability to act or dismiss a notification.

Empowered by the Hailo-8 edge AI accelerator, each Luma Bridge device can process up to four camera streams in real-time, and deliver intelligent capabilities beyond the cameras’ native designs using the Luma Insights service. Snap One chose the class-leading Hailo-8 for its performance, efficiency and proven integration record with camera systems. The Hailo-8 features up to 26 tera-operations per second, outperforming all other edge processors and enabling highly accurate insights with low latency, for real-time alerts and notifications.

“Hailo is excited to partner with a leading US-based smart tech company that leverages AI to offer innovative tech products and solutions across both the residential and commercial spaces,” said D.C.

Smalley, General Manager of Hailo North America. “Hailo’s advanced AI technology improves the end user experience and safety by providing more accurate insights with unparalleled speed.”

The Luma Insights service is fully configurable in just 3-4 steps through OvrC, only requiring a simple and low-effort driver installation process through OvrC and no network setup on the Luma Bridge. The Luma Bridge automatically scans the network and Control4 system and displays a list of compatible cameras that are connected to both. As soon as the Bridge devices are connected and the Partner chooses up to four areas of interest within each camera’s frame for extra focus, the solution is immediately functional.

When a notification is sent, end-users also have the ability to quickly share snapshots or videos or mark an event as a false positive. The service is smart enough to know whether users have already been alerted of an event, so event aggregation suppresses subsequent notifications, but not recordings.

“This new solution will provide long-term benefits for users including future firmware updates to offer additional tiers of functionality including the potential for expanded cloud storage, additional AI features, such as perimeter protection, access control, support for third-party cameras and more,” Webb concluded.

“This is the most powerful and most automated surveillance platform ever for Control4 users, and every Snap One security Partner now has an excellent reason to reach out to existing customers and begin delivering enhanced peace of mind to every business and homeowner.”

Requirements for the Luma Insights service include the Luma Bridge hardware and the Luma Insights AI platform are currently only available to Control4 Partners. The AI platform functionality requires a Luma Insights Subscription License (initial purchase includes a 3-Year subscription), and cloud-based features like remote access, push notifications, and cloud storage require an active subscription to 4Sight cloud services.

Guest Room Management System is a game-changer for the hotel industry offering guests a more comfortable, convenient and personalized experience while helping hotel owners streamline their operations and boost revenue. Read on to know more…

Smart hotels around the world are defined by the seamless integration of smart technology, automation, security, and convenience. Traditional hotels have evolved into smart hotels in response to the increasing expectations of tech-savvy travelers. Today’s modern travelers, in addition to luxurious decor, anticipate a higher level of convenience, personalization, and efficiency, which can only be achieved through the incorporation of Guest Room Automation.

As the preferences of travellers continue to evolve, Guest Room Automation is the solution that meets their growing demand for convenience and personalization. It empowers guests to effortlessly tailor their room environment, from adjusting lighting, drawing up curtains/blinds, and temperature control to managing entertainment systems, all with the simple touch of a button. This high level of customization caters particularly well to the expectations of tech-savvy guests.

Moreover, hotels that embrace Guest Room Automation gain a competitive advantage by attracting a wider spectrum of patrons. From those seeking luxurious and cutting-edge technology experiences to business travelers in pursuit of efficient stays, this technology appeals to diverse guest segments. Notably, Guest Room Automation can also support premium pricing strategies and foster guest loyalty. In addition, it contributes to sustainability and energy efficiency as it optimizes energy consumption based on occupancy and individual preferences.

The adoption of Guest Room Automation is further driven by an array of factors. Enhanced security features, the convenience of mobile check-in and check-out options, streamlined operations, and the increasing familiarity of guests with technology all play pivotal roles in promoting this technological advancement within the hospitality industry.

What is Guest Room Management System? (design Box)

A Guest Room Management System (GRMS) is a specialized software solution designed to enhance the operational efficiency of hotels and similar lodging establishments. Its primary purpose is to streamline the management of room inventory and reservations. This comprehensive system encompasses tools for efficiently handling reservations, tracking room availability, setting pricing, managing billing, and organizing customer information.

Incorporated within the GRMS are valuable features such as housekeeping management, inventory control, and robust reporting and analytics tools. These elements empower hotel managers to make informed, data-driven decisions to improve their operations. By optimizing room occupancy and pricing strategies, a Guest Room Management System not only bolsters the hotel’s efficiency but also elevates the guest experience, ultimately leading to increased revenue.

Adding his insight Jubin Thomas, Territory Sales Manager -India & Subcontinent Region Lutron GL Sales & Services Pvt. Ltd.  says, “For properties looking to take the guest experience to the next level, the answer can be delivering heightened comfort and control of the room environment. Control of the lighting level, drapery position, roller shade position, and temperature set point can be streamlined and beautified to create guestrooms that delight and offer comfort at the touch of a button.  The Lutron myRoom guest management system offers an improved guest experience both on arrival and throughout the stay. Welcome scenes are activated upon guest arrival. Guests open the door to a carefully curated scene that showcases the view and the finishes and furnishings in the room in its best light. There are currently 55,000 guestrooms in the world that use Lutron myRoom to deliver a special guest experience and extraordinary comfort. The recently built Ritz Carlton in Mexico City is one incredible example.”

Solution and Technology

Some of the key automation functions are it lowers operational costs. When a guest leaves his or her room, for instance, automatic occupancy sensing and reporting allows housekeeping to make informed decisions about when to clean a room. While automated control of shades or tinting glass can cut cooling costs, particularly where the building facade receives direct solar radiation.

Hotels waste the most energy when rooms are unoccupied. Automation from companies such as Control4, Lutron, Legrand,  ABB, BuildTrack, Havells, Siemens, Crestron, Schineder  to name a few companies offer various solutions.  The energy-management system can also receive that notification, prompting the temperature to return to a lower-power-consuming neutral level. Hotels often have unoccupied rooms on a given night, and if the temperature and lighting isn’t controlled, it is simply costing the hotel money.

Then there are the benefits gained from guests using Apps on their smartphones. Not only is technology making the check-in and check-out procedure more convenient, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology incorporates keyless entry into a guest’s mobile device. Geolocation-based services provide additional benefits, such as monitoring guest arrival and departure status, room usage and trends, enhancing emergency response, and directing staff and guests to available meeting spaces and parking.

Wireless systems using radio-frequency identification (RFID) are also being used to enable access to rooms and to detect when people or things enter and leave. There are companies offering solutions in which an RFID chip is mounted on the underside of food carts. RFID readers that capture the transmission of the tag can be installed in hallways. So when a cart rolls into or out of a guest room, the reader senses that and sends an alert to staff that a cart at a specific location is ready to be collected. That saves labour time and improves guest satisfaction.

Ar. Rachna Khadtale and System Integrator Jaimaan Gupta, Founder, Frontmen Smart Home have created a synergy between stunning interiors, high-end technology and automation.

Experience a blend of contemporary design and smart technology in this 3BHK plush residence located in Lodha World View, a premium luxury project in Mumbai. This apartment has been designed by Ar. Rachna Khadtale for this tech-savvy couple. Spread over an area of 1,800 sq. ft., the couple wanted an aesthetically pleasing home that seamlessly integrates modern design and technologically advanced smart home technology, that caters to the lifestyle preferences of a family comprising husband, wife and their 9-year-old daughter.

As the young couple believed that Smart Technology is the need of the hour and wanted to integrate it to match their lifestyle, System Integrator Jaimaan Gupta, Founder, Frontmen Smart Home was trusted with the job to provide his expertise for this residence.

Explaining the integration of the smart lighting and lighting controls Jaimaan Gupta says, “The client desired a wide variety of lighting options to create different moods and ambience throughout their home. They specifically wanted lights with CCT, RGB  and dimming control that would allow them to customise the lighting according to their preferences.” The client  frequently hosts guests and organizes parties, so they opted for an integrated AudioVisual (AV) system throughout the house. Where the AV systems and speakers are discreet and non-bulky, blending seamlessly into the overall aesthetic of the home.

Planning and Implementation

The planning and implementation phases of this smart home project were carefully executed to meet the client’s expectations and create a seamless home automation experience. Additionally, a robust, flexible, dependable, and high-performance lighting control system has been provided through a centralised wired solution. The wired solution provides superior reliability and quality, meeting the client’s requirements for optimal control over their lighting.  Plus, also takes care of CCT Tuning and RGB Control. The team has selected Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) and DMX as the preferred control interfaces. This not only fulfilled their lighting preferences but also helps in optimising wiring costs, providing both functionality and cost-effectiveness.

After a thorough evaluation, the team chose Crabtree as the preferred brand for the lighting control system. “Crabtree impressed us with its impressive features, excellent build quality, and affordability. Moreover, as the parent company Havells has a strong presence in Mumbai and multiple service centers across the country, we were confident in providing reliable service support to the client throughout the project. The selection of Crabtree ensured a reliable and high-quality lighting control system that fulfills the client’s expectations.” says Jaimaan.

To deliver a seamless audiovisual (AV) and software control experience, the team opted for Control4, the leading brand globally for easy, flexible, yet advanced AV control solutions. Control4’s one App control solution allows the end user to operate lights, AV devices, shades, climate control, security products like CCTV cameras, and digital door locks from a single App. This streamlined approach enhances convenience and simplifies control for the client, making it the ideal choice for a comprehensive and integrated smart home experience.

Jaimaan selected Lithoss Switches that boast classy and elegant metal finishes and also features physical push buttons that provide a tactile click feedback sound upon pressing. This user-friendly design makes them ideal for bedside switches, offering convenience and ease of use. Additionally, the integration of sockets into the same panel and finish ensures a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing design, eliminating the need for separate socket installations and maintaining the overall visual appeal of the smart home.

To ensure excellent sound quality without compromising the aesthetics of the home, Jaimaan has installed Monitor Audio and Revel In-Ceiling speakers and subs throughout the residence. These speakers are strategically placed to remain hidden, providing a clean and clutter-free look. To power these speakers and achieve multi-room audio functionality, he has utilised Denon AVR’s audio processing capabilities. The integration of Denon’s HEOS technology allows the client to play the same music in all areas during a party or different music in different areas based on their preferences, providing a versatile and immersive audio experience.

Systems and Brands Integrated

To automate the curtains, Somfy Tracks and Motors were integrated into every room. This allowed the client to effortlessly control the opening and closing of curtains, enhancing privacy and light management. In the living area, a motorised bar lift was installed, providing a unique and space-saving solution. This lift conceals the bar unit when not in use. RGB strip lights were also integrated into the area, synchronised with a large aquarium whose colours can be controlled via RGB lighting. Additionally, a 5.1 Monitor Audio In-ceiling Home Theatre system, along with two additional in-ceiling speakers in the dining/kitchen area, was installed. This setup allowed the users to play the same music during parties, creating a seamless audio experience. The client further customised this setup into a single party scene, activating the RGB strip lights, raising the bar lift, and playing the chosen party playlist, all at the press of a single button.

In the master bedroom, a 2.1 Revel In-ceiling speaker system was installed, creating a high-quality audio experience. An additional waterproof IP65-rated Revel In-ceiling speaker was integrated into the bathroom shower area, allowing the client to enjoy music in every corner of the house, even while bathing.

For the daughter’s bedroom, Hunter Douglas Motorized Blinds from the Nantucket series were chosen. These blinds serve a dual purpose, acting as sheer and blackout blinds within the same fabric, providing flexibility and convenience. To add a touch of ambiance, optical fiber lights, commonly known as star lights, were installed, creating a twinkling effect in the bedroom.

By integrating these smart automation products into specific areas of the home, we ensured enhanced convenience, comfort, and a personalized experience for the client, elevating their lifestyle within their smart home environment.

Advantages Automation Provides

With a wide array of lights, such as spots, strip lights, profile lights, and decorative lights, offering features like CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) and RGB (Red Green Blue) control, operating them manually would be a complex and time-consuming task for the client. By implementing an automation system, the client gains the ability to create customized scenes and effortlessly control these lights, maximising their functionality and ensuring they are used to their full potential.

Without automation, operating numerous lights would require an overwhelming number of switches. This would lead to confusion for the client, making it difficult to determine which switch controls which light. Additionally, setting the desired ambiance for any specific area would involve traversing multiple switchboards and toggling numerous switches, resulting in inconvenience. Automation streamlines this process by significantly reducing the number of switchboards required. With just a couple of panels, the client can conveniently access their favorite scenes, effortlessly adjusting the lighting and ambiance throughout the living area.

One of the major advantages of implementing an automation system is the ability to control multiple aspects of the home, such as lights, audiovisual (AV) systems, CCTV cameras, climate control, and shades, all from a single app. This centralized control offers convenience and ease of use, eliminating the need to switch between multiple apps or systems. The client can now manage and monitor various functionalities of their home seamlessly, enhancing their overall smart home experience.

Dimming the lights saves a ton of electricity. Additionally, by incorporating smart sensors and timers, the automation system can optimise energy usage by automatically adjusting lighting and climate settings based on occupancy and time of day. This leads to energy savings and promotes a more eco-friendly living environment.

The flexibility of an automation system allows for personalised and customisable experiences tailored to the client’s preferences. Whether it’s creating unique lighting scenes for different occasions, scheduling automated routines, or integrating voice control for hands-free operation, the client can enjoy a truly bespoke and intuitive smart home environment.

By leveraging the benefits of automation, the client gains convenience, flexibility, energy efficiency, and an enhanced living experience that seamlessly integrates various aspects of their home into a unified and intelligent system.

Overall, both professionals have successfully aimed at delivering a comprehensive and integrated smart home solution that met the client’s preferences, functional requirements, and design aesthetics. The careful selection of reliable brands and products has ensured the highest standards of performance, reliability, and user satisfaction for this residence.

Paushika Gupta Architecture + Design and Systems Integrator Vineet Jha, Touchlite Automatic Automation has designed a secured and well-integrated home in New Delhi.

Paushika Gupta Architecture + Design is a multi-disciplinary boutique practice from New Delhi. Ar. Paushika believes in implementing inventiveness and vision in all her projects and her style is best defined as, luxuriously modern, with a whiff of Art Deco. The studio designs luxurious residential projects, as well as, commercial and hospitality projects.

This home designed for a young couple located in Nizamuddin, overlooks the Humayun’s tomb (UNESCO World-Heritage-Site) and lush green surrounding from its full-length glass windows. The residence is spread over an area of 5,400 sq ft and has a living area, dining with a dedicated bar, an en-suite master bedroom, a guest bedroom, kitchen, and a study cum den with ample storage.

Concept and Scope of Work

The brief of the client was to create a sanctuary, which would not only reflect their lifestyle and preference but would also be as hands-free as possible. “In short, the client wanted a home with traditional aesthetics yet modern automation techniques to be at power with today’s times.” says Ar. Paushika Gupta. Further adding insight on the design process, she says, “We have included lighting, audio, video, security, HVAC and heating – all combined into one system. Since the client travels extensively, home safety was a major concern, hence, automation systems were to be used in order to be able to check in on their home from anywhere in the world.”

Planning and Implementation Phases

Paushika along with Systems Integrator Mr. Vineet Jha, Touchlite Automatic Automation designed a workable format where HVAC, lighting, audio, video, intercom, and security were integrated together in order to provide a unified and personalized utilitarian experience to the client. The focus was to use only ‘one touch’, to dim the lights, play music, turn up the heat, lock the doors and arm the security system.

The team has incorporated a decentralised automation system because it provided the advantage of quick installation and easy operation for this project. All devices were connected wirelessly from lighting switches to voice commands to apps on phones.

Smart Home Automation Used

“With Control 4 automation system, we used the EA-3 controller for entertainment and automation, this ensured that the house was able to automate lighting, video, audio, and security. The EA-3 controller is a small modem that can be easily installed behind a television screen. A seamless fully integrated smart home system used for automation lighting switches with predefined scenes, a climate control system, a home theatre integrated into one remote control, air conditioner scenes and a security system via 4sight lets the client take care of their home from anywhere in the world.” says Systems Integrator Mr. Vineet Jha, Touchlite automatic automation.

Advantages of Technology to Homeowners

“With the Smart Home OS3, one can set scenes in keypads, control the humidity and climate inside a space, pair up music in the entire house, etc., for example, a night scene with dimmed down lighting. Or control the home theatre. One can also set a scene for the cooking time in the kitchen where the lights turn up and a home cooking channel starts playing. For the drawing and dining area, the preset lighting scenes deliver either a dimly created ambience or a fully bright room for vibrant discussions, there is also a feature for music that can either be controlled per area or one track can be played throughout the house. The home theatre system is controlled by one app on the phone/ipad that can be used to create a home theatre mood-lit scene along with one touch switching on and off. Similarly, the whole house is made accessible via phone application when the homeowner is away from home or in any part of the world. The security systems get locked by the swipe of a button, along with the curtains getting drawn as per the night time routine and morning routine of the homeowner.” Explains Vineet.

Energy-Efficiency and Green Norms

Control 4 system helps immensely in energy efficiency, such that energy saving does not sacrifice the homeowner’s comfort or convenience. For instance, certain lights turn on and off automatically based on the Control4 system’s built-in astronomical time clock. The lights are never on full brightness level which saves a lot more energy. As a part of the morning preset scene, a select number of lights switch on and similarly at night, all the lights turn off at the click of a single button by the homeowner. The hot water systems, as well as the air conditioning systems, have set the timing for automatic switching on and off which saves energy from endless hours of excessive usage. This saves up enough power to use for other audio and video devices in the house.

Challenges and Precautions

“While finalising which system to go ahead with for automation, one of the challenges faced was having too many apps to do things. Instead of making life easier, it would be making life harder. Hence, having Control4 for automatic integration in one app was very useful. Another challenge faced was overheating of devices due to high temperatures, the solution for this was a dust-free and well-ventilated environment for the devices, wherein, there is enough space and no device is entangled together.” informs Jha.

Selecting Right Automation

It is important to understand the needs of the homeowners in order to provide a more comfortable and safe home. From conserving the environment around us to improving the quality of life, home automation is the key to a better future. Hence, it is important to know the focal point where automation is required to minimize impact, to keep in mind the goal which should be to maximise comfort by offering proper accessibility and to be able to customize/future-proof technology with changing times and needs.

Adani Shantigram, North Park is a palatial home of Nirmal Patel spread over an area of 11,400 sq ft that exemplifies `Modern Zen’. Designed by Ar. Uttamaditya, CEO & Founder, U & I Interiors along with systems Integrator Chipbucket Solutions Pvt. Ltd., this luxurious home is designed to be a personal retreat for the Patel family.

Apart from the plush aesthetics, the owner wanted his home to be integrated with smart automation systems, including high-tech security measures, remote or censored lighting, and a home theatre. Plus, the designer has worked on reducing the cost associated with regular maintenance and providing easy access to essential functions when the family is away from home.

The high-tech indoor home theatre with its surround sound and recliner chair arranged in theatrical seating arrangement recreates a commercial silver screen experience. All the curtains and lights are remotely controlled through an application on a smartphone or even a computer screen, which helps in keeping unwanted light out while preserving natural sunlight during the daytime. The lights used also have the colour temperature adaptability, which can be adjusted as per the mood or activities.

The indoor grooming and rejuvenation areas includes a personal salon spa, a massage parlour, and an illuminated mirror that serves as the need of the hour. The main entrance has state-of-the-art smart security solutions like video surveillance cameras with facial recognition which enhances the comfort levels of the family members by providing an additional layer of safety by vigilantly monitoring the surroundings.

Smart Home Automation Products Used

By integrating smart home technology into their design, the client was able to save both time and money. The designers opted for smart lights and appliances using the homeowner’s smartphone app. This allowed them to avoid having to go through the hassle of turning off all the lights at once when they left for work each morning. Automatic lighting and temperature control in all rooms, as well as access to key features from any device that they had registered with the homeowner’s portal. In addition, by automating various tasks such as watering plants or turning off appliances when they left for work, they were able to reduce the time spent on household chores. The client’s security was enhanced as devices were installed that monitored their environment and alerted them if there was an issue. Additionally, by incorporating sensors in key areas such as entryways and bedrooms, they could automatically adjust temperature settings based on the weather outside. These features made their homes more comfortable and saved them money on energy bills.

Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency was one of the important factors while designing this building. Explaining in detail the designer says, “We ensured that the equipment is efficient and used low-energy technologies like LED lighting and motion sensors. We installed insulation and air sealing throughout the building so that the heat could be trapped inside during the winter months. Plus, we have optimized climate control measures using natural ventilation techniques or thermal storage systems. By doing all of this while keeping an eye on our energy consumption, we were able to achieve very significant reductions in our overall electricity bill.

Challenges Overcome

When working on the smart home project, one of the biggest challenges the designer faced was ensuring that all the devices were compatible with each other. This required a lot of trial and error, as well as some creative solution-finding. Additionally, we had to create an easy-to-use interface so that users could control their devices from anywhere in the world. And lastly, we needed to make sure that my system was robust enough to handle a large volume of traffic – both streaming data and voice commands.

Overall Experience and Takeaways

“Overall, our experience working on the smart home project was both challenging and rewarding. While there were some hiccups along the way (mainly related to electronics), I’m glad that we persisted and eventually got things done. The key takeaway for me is that it’s important to be organized and have expectations set from the beginning so that not much surprises you down the road. Additionally, stay committed to your project, don’t give up easily, and remember that communication is key.”
